Picked up a set of America the Beautiful 5 ounce silver buillon coins from MTB. These are United States Mint issue but due to some weird federal law you can only buy them through an authorized coin dealer. These are the same design as on the current quarters.
When all was said and done after commission, fees, insurance and shipping I paid $930. Considering its 25 ounces of silver and current spot price is $37.67 an ounce I ended up paying about $.50 below spot per ounce...
Ive already made money. These are a few completed auctions today. These things are going crazy on ebay....

The mint restricts the price the dealers can sell them at. They are only allowed to make a certain profit on them regardless of what the silver price does. Looking at my invoice the actual cost of the coins was $860!
I believe they still have some in stock at most of the brokers who got them. APMEX initally sold them at a way jacked up price, was ordered by the mint to issue refunds and the rumor is they then decided not to sell them publicly and dumped their inventory to HSN and QVC. I ordered mine from Manfred, Tordella & Brookes.

Silver conducts electricty better than any element. Conducts heat better than any metal. It is used for photography and electronics. It is used in mirrors, as jewelry, and as currency. It is simply more useful than gold or platinum. Gold does have impressive qualities, for example a golden pot or pan would last longer than any you have seen, but it would be the most expensive pan you had ever seen. It's just not worth it to use gold in these kind of ways, it's too expensive.

i wonder the same thing, but then again often times I sell things on ebay for alot more than what they go for on amazon. I will sell something to somebody, and think in my head, "you do know that you could have bought that for amazon for $20 cheaper AND free shipping right?"

OP, I went to the us mint and helped set up the press that makes those.
It was cool as fuk watching them just press hundreds of those.Negs to anyone that:
makes a terrible troll thread
makes any conspiracy theory thread
makes a religious/political thread without knowledge of what they're talking about

Don't believe they are 100% silver. Don't believe any dealer would sell them below strike price. If what you say is true, those silver coins would be fukking sold out in a heartbeat because anyone with a brain would arbitrage them out of stock.
edit. Google:
