How long do you spend at the gym?

I go to the gym 5 days per week with each workout lasting between 2 and 3 hours. Is this a little too long?

With low rep range/heavy weights I try to keep the lifting part never longer then 45-50min, then a 16min cardio. This timeframe can really help, especially when working out with a partner. Keeps the chatter to a mininum, and the mental focus in place.

That depends. Are you lifting for 3 hours or just your entire routine takes 2-3 hours? I spend aorund 1 hour with actual lifting, but if you do any sort of scheduled warm up, cool down or conditioning work that will obviously add mroe time onto your total workout.

Basically yes 2-3 hours is too long if it just weights, but I think 2 hours is average if you are including these other components into your workouts.
    Current Bests (raw/singleply)

    Squat- 435 / 512.5
    Bench- 280 / 308.5

    - Squat 500, Bench 325, Deadlift 550 raw at 181-220.

    - Give the recreational bodybuilder thing a solid effort.

It never ceases to amaze me how people have the time to workout that long.

What are you doing for 2-3 hours.

I'm there for 90 minutes and it includes.

    Foam Roller/Stretch - 5 minutes
    Warm Up - 15 minutes
    5/3/1 - 10 minutes
    Westside Dynamic Lifts - 10 - 15 min
    Assistance Work - 10 minutes
    CF WOD - 15-20 minutes

^My thoughts exactly. With those stats you probably need to cut down the workout time and give your body a chance to rest & grow.

    You're doing it wrong.

Currently I am around 1:15. Some days have been :45, some in the past were 2:20. But how long I am in the gym doesn't have much to do with how long you should be.

I do not feel like that is too long at all. I go to the gym and do 30-35 minutes cardio and then lift. it usually takes me 2 to 3 hours before I am out of there. Just shows how determined you are to change.

I'm running ICF 5x5. Resetting all my weights but when I was working with my 5RM I was in the gym for an hour and a half to two hours. Not too bad with resting 3-4min on main sets sometimes 5-6min.

Thank you for bumping this >1 year old thread to make this post.

Not sure if trolling...or reading comprehension failure.

That word...rest...it doesn't mean what you think it means (in this sentence)
"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life."

"Should of" is not a thing you morans. "Should've" aka should have. Get a brain.

I don't think it's that bad. I'm doing a 4 days split right now that I combined into a 2 day split. Mon/Thurs are chest, tricep, and some back and then Tues/Friday are legs, biceps, and more back. Each body part would be an average of 40-60 mins but with them combined I'm usually there for about 2 hours. I think it all depends on how much you're doing.

Depends if it works for you. If you enjoy working out for 2 hours or more and you are seeing results and feel good then you're on the right track. Don't let anyone deter you from doing something if it works for you but may not work for them.

I myself train for around 2 hours.

I can be up to 3 hours but I go train to compete, and maybe half the time is lost by helping others, listening to directions, and such. Usual time is just close to 2 hours, and a brisk, typical gym workout will be in and out in less than 1.
