Tyrbocharged And Back To Work
Confession: I stopped working out about 3 months ago. Membership expired, personal difficulties, other things.
But now I've moved to a new location...got a new regular job...and I'm ready to reclaim my former hugeness! Well, whatever you'd call it. Moderate sizeness... lol
You'd be surprised how, at 49 years old, a guy can lose size and gain fat rather quickly, and I'm sick of it.
But I've been here before and it's kind of like n00b gains all over again--at least in the past.
Day 1--Chest/arms
Lost 30 pounds on my benches, and also had the shakes pressing up. Didn't want to overdo it the first day back, so I skipped the usual hammerstrength, and only did 5 sets flat instead of 6 or 7, 4 sets incline instead of 5 or 6, 4 sets cable rope pushdowns and lying cable curls.
But by then, to finish, I had to resort to descending dropsets (3) because the endurance just wasn't there.
1 hour workout.

PS: 30lbs is NOTHING. I bet once your body gets the rhythm back you'll be right where you left off. What does your new gym look like?

haha. Well, this gym close to where I am living has free two week trial membership, so I took the offer.
The one today is called Fitness One, medium sized, very clean, newer all nice icarian machines, and benches. Actually pretty well equipped. Some Hammerstrength. Plates with built in handles. Pretty much a bodybuilder's gym, but very sparkling clean.
No extras like hot tub, pool, courts, etc.
Where I'm gonna work provides a discount at LA Fitness, so I'll probably end up going there. (Huge place)They have basketball court, swimming pool (I like to do both), and it will only cost me $27. Still have to check it out though before I decide where I will be joining. If it's a Planet Fitness clone, they can shove it.

Super DOMS from yesterday...the kind where it really hurts to stretch. I love it.
Today, as I continue my re-breaking in period, I basically did 8 alternating sets between power squat machine and seated leg curl.
Finished it off with 5 sets adductor machine, cause I knew W8 would be disappointed if I didn't do them.
It took 45 minutes.

Reminds me to update. After Sunday leg workout I started getting it really bad in my legs, especially inner thigh from the adductor. Then that night I started my new job, which entails walking about 5 miles in total.
So the last few days I have been very sore and inhibiting recovery from working.
Then company came and it's been hard getting back to resume my split. Friday morning looks like the next best day.

Back to only 10 pounds lighter than I would resume my bench strength. Legs killed me all week, especially groin area from teh adductor (anyone tells you that is a bs machine has never tried 4 or 5 sets of it at 150+ pounds).
Noob gains are great, especially when you're 49 and it's just muscle memory, but it's like blowing the f**k up all over again, except quicker.
Gonna try doing legs again and then on to my first back/shouler workout in ages.

Subscribed, in the hope that I'll start following journals again.
I bet you looked good using the yes/no machine.

Better believe it.
I forgot to add, i worked in the hammerstrength press machine tonight, too. Getting back to previous levels means adding back all the exercises incrementally as well as upping the weights. You can't just jump back in the saddle 100% again unless you want injury and discouragmenet.

Little update. Had company for a month and was hard to get back on a schedule, but did a few chest/arm workouts and almost back to previous levels there.
Work was pwning my lower back so I held off on any back work until tonight.
I did:
Pullups
Cable Rows
Smith Machine Shrugs front and back
Straight arm cable pushdowns
Upright Rows
Scarecrows
2 Arm DB Rows
Rear DB flies
Laterals
DB Shrugs
Assisted Pullups
Man, it's aggravating to be looking at the numbers on the weights and trying to do what I was doing 3 months ago before I quit and feeling like a little old lady. I am going to be so sore tomorrow on back/shoulders.
But now the company is gone and I am getting used to my job so I intend to really pour it on this week finally.

Still increasing frequencies and workout poundages. My arms are very sore from this mornings workout, which included a couple sets of kickbacks, btw.

Very stiff and inflexible upper body today. kinda like trying to move about (tie shoes, reach for things, etc) in a spacesuit. lol
Leg workout was power squat based (back to 3 plates a side there), so I supplemented with seated leg curls, seated calf raise, adductor, and finished off with supersets of leg extensions and standing leg curls.
Lots of seated exercises this leg workout. Nothing like working out while sitting down.

Back/shoulder workout. After hand-pulling large 2 foot weeds for several hours all day, the evening workout was weak. Still not back to pullups with any weight added so I did mostly pulldowns. Skipped the front delt part of workout and did less volume than I'd like. Converted most of my regular exercises to giant sets to help with endurance.
Pullups x bw, pulldowns, box frame shrugs, t-bar shrugs, upright rows, scarecrow rc, db rear rows, laterals, db shrugs, and assisted pullups.
BW down to 204 (limiting carb intake slightly)
