Kellie's journal about lifting heavy things and food!

This is my second try at the journal thing. The first try failed miserably mostly because I'm NOT a patient person, and no one was posting in it. I felt so alone. This time I think I'll be a little more patient. I probably won't post my exact meals and workouts because I am far too lazy and I've got Leigh P. helping me with my nutrition and workout stuff, but I will definitely talk about recipes and how much I love eating!

    Current stats:
    Height - 5'2"
    Weight - 135 lbs.
Body Fat - 24% (as of one month ago)

Goals: I just want the jiggle to stop. Please make it stop! Oh and I want to be able to beat the boys at arm wrestling.

Hmmm...what else? I think that's it for now. I will keep everyone posted on my food adventures since food is the only thing I ever talk about. Woohoo!

Ooooh, that looks good! 'Cept I'd probably eat the cake and not the icing. I only like super processed icing from the tub that they sell with the cake mixes at the grocery store. I'll add to the food porn. Here are some pictures that I took in Israel. Israeli food is my absolute FAVORITE.

For that last one, I actually picked up the fish with one hand and snapped the photo with the other hand. My dad and his friend were sitting there watching me in amusement. They were amused at how amused I was at the concept of being served a whole fish. I don't get out much.

Yeah, and my dad likes the brains and eyes and stuff which is really weird to me, but apparently it's an Israeli thing because his friend likes 'em too. I think I'll try it next time, I'd like to find out what the hype is about. Who knows, maybe I'll enjoy fish brains.

Since this is my new journal and I'm supposed to talk about lifting heavy things, I might as well share the highlight of my day. I skipped my workouts on Thursday and Friday just so I'd have something to do this weekend (usually I take weekends off) since the BF is out of town. When I got there, it was a lot more busy than I had expected, and both of the barbells for squats were being used. I went off to do something else in the meantime, but kept hovering around them and pestering the two guys who were on them and taking FOREVER. Finally I got my turn and loaded up two 45 lb. plates (which I really don't think is a lot) and Mr. Deadlifter next to me was standing there watching me the whole time. I made eye contact and smiled and finally he says "are you really going to squat that?" I said yes, and he was like "wow, that just seems like a lot for a little girl...not that you're...well...uh...er..." I just laughed and started squatting. When I was done with my set, he was like "wow, you got parallel and everything, good job!" It seriously made my day. No one ever compliments me at the gym. Yay.

I love the looks of awe. Especially from the girlfriends who get dragged along by their boyfriends. I especially like it when I can hear them talking..."that's so much weight!"

I'm having a great weekend, thanks Jeanie. I hope you are too! Some of my friends came in town from San Francisco today, and I dragged them to a Korean restaurant so I could try soo doo boo. They called it soon doo boo, but regardless of the name, it was delicious! I'm definitely going to have to figure out how to make it myself. Got any other recommendations for Korean food? I'm going to take my boyfriend there for Valentine's day since it's something different from our usual Thai food cheat meal.

Don't worry about the squats, I was doing them with my own body weight for a long time before I worked my way up. Not too long ago, I was doing them with 10 lb. dumbells, there's nothing wrong with that. The first time I did squats was in an aerobics class with my mom, actually. I got good practice that way.

I'm so glad you liked the soon do boo! My friend introduced it to me a year ago and I've been hooked ever since. I've introduced it to a good number of my friends and they all love it as well! I'm not Korean so I don't know much about korean foods, but if you haven't tried Korean bbq ribs yet...you definitely need to..they should have it at that same restaurant. I'm sure your boyfriend will love it! Thai food is delicious too...I love pad thai.

When you do the squats with dumbbells, do you hold them at your side?

    Great Koren Dish and Healthy

    2 crabs
    200g radish
    150g zucchini
    1/2 onion
    2 green onion
    2 red chili
1/2 a root of green onion
    30g anchovy
    1 piece of sea tangle
    2 tablespoons of ground garlic
4 tablespoons of soy bean paste
    1 teaspoon of chili powder
    salt

    1. Making Anchovy/Sea Tangle Stock
Put enough water in a pot and put in the prepared anchovy and sea tangle. Boil for a while.
    2. Preparing Crabs
Take off the hard cover shell. Wash the ends of the leg cleanly and chop it.
    3. Preparing Vegetables
Radish should be cut into 1.5cm×1.5cm×3mm size and the zucchini should be cut rather thickly in semi-circled shape. Cut the onion into bite sizes. Green chili, red chili and green onion should be cut diagonally.
    4. Dissolving Soy Bean Paste in Water
Dissolve some soy bean paste in the stock make in 1. Put the radish and boil. When it is cooked, put the crab and boil. When it boils, put in chili powder, zucchini, onion, green chili, red chili, green onion and garlic. Add salt.

Jeanie, yes, I hold the dumbells at my sides, although my old trainer loved to make me do overhead presses with them. He'd have me squat, then do an overhead press as I came back up.

Thanks for the food porn, Jocelyn! The one with the fruit and the one with the bananas look the best. But I'd probably just eat the fruit off of 'em and leave the rest. I'm really weird about desserts, I only like really plain stuff. Vanilla cake with vanilla icing and rainbow sprinkles...no chocolate (yuck). Pie is good, especially pumpkin, and, pretty much everything with fruit, but no fruity candy. I do like candy corn though. I love the ones shaped like pumpkins. I know I'm weird, you don't have to tell me.

Leigh, that sounds awesome, I'm definitely going to make that. Only problem is...what's sea tangle and where do I get it? My mom is coming in town next weekend and she loves to cook, so maybe we'll make it for dinner one night. I still need to make that stuffed mushroom recipe you gave me too. I've been craving it ever since you gave me the recipe.

I think that's what my roommate got last night. It had rice in it, right? I was trying to avoid anything with a lot of white rice since I didn't wanna make my dinner last night my cheat. You see, I kinda went overboard on my cheat last weekend (damn PMS) and it made me feel really crappy, so I'm going to wait until my mom comes in town next weekend to do it again. Fortunately my mom is into fitness and eating clean, so she's not a bad influence, but we might go get ice cream or make unhealthy pancakes something. Vanilla with rainbow sprinkles in a cone or pumpkin pancakes with real syrup and cottage cheese. My cheats consist of cottage cheese...I suck at cheating.

I just did HIIT outside for the first time. I have to say I LOVE SAN DIEGO. The weather was perfect, and I still can't get over it. I've lived here since September, and I work outside every single day, but the perfect weather still amazes me. I think I might go swimming in February just because I can.

Bi Bim Bap does have rice in it...a lot more than the soon do boo. My cheats are always either soon do boo or sushi. I get high off of it. I MAY go over to my boyfriend's house for his parents Superbowl party...I don't know if that's such a wise choice though.

The weather is nice here in Southern Cali but the area I live in is so polluted that when I run outside I end up getting sick for the rest of the day. YAY for working out outdoors though! I, unfortunately, SUCK at HIIT. I can't even run a mile without thinking that I'm going to die.

I found a picture of your cheat meal for next week.

I loooooooooooooooove sushi! I do not, however, love Superbowl parties. Football is pretty much the most boring thing in the whole entire world and I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to sit in a room with a bunch of people who are yelling at a TV and stuffing their faces with Doritos. All I've done today is run, shower and eat, but it's far more exciting than watching football. And for the record, I can't run a mile either unless I run really slow, but usually it's my feet that start hurting before anything else. That's the good thing about HIIT. There's a lot of walking involved too.

    Those pancakes are glorious...mmmmmm....

There's a lot of walking involved too.

    Those pancakes are glorious...mmmmmm....
I know what you mean about the football thing. I'm not a big fan either...I just wanted to go over there for the food. His mom makes these DELICIOUS meatballs only on special ocassions. I'm actually going to the gym around 4...ehehehheeh the gym will be empty!!!!!!

I've been craving it ever since you gave me the recipe.
It is basically Kelp (seaweed). You can find it in most asian markets and health food stores, even some grocery markets.

And you need to get on that stuffed mushroom recipe!

For the other post here it is...

Here is a great high protein/low fat stuffed mushroom recipe.

8 ounces fat free cream cheese
6 ounces crabmeat (have int with the tuna, bumblebee is pretty good!)
    2 cups spinach
    2 garlic cloves
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (NOT garlic salt)
    1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper
    1 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
    20-30 medium white mushrooms

    # (Since I'm usually cooking for 1 or 2, I tend to cut the recipe in half. Also,
a great deal of this recipe is to taste. So if you like your mushrooms meatier,
add more meat and less cream cheese.).
    # Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    # Remove stems from mushrooms an wash thoroughly. Let mushrooms dry on a paper
    towel.
    # In a food processor add cream cheese, entire package of artificial crab, two
tablespoons of Parmesan, and two cloves of garlic. (You may also add some
chopped scallions if you like). Pulse until smooth.
    # Taste your mixture and add salt, pepper, and powdered garlic to taste.
    # With a spoon, scoop about one tablespoon of mixture into each mushroom, or
until cap is full and overflowing a bit. Use the spoon to smooth out mixture
into a nice mound. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray of choice and place
completed mushrooms evenly on the sheet. Bake about 8 mins, or until mushroom
    tops begin to brown.

Happy Monday indeed! It's payday! And four days until my boyfriend comes back in town, five days until my mom comes to visit. Tonight also happens to be weight training night, let's just hope that work doesn't beat me up too badly. Anywho, time to go. There are cars that need fixing. Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Those pancakes still look amazing. Anywho, I just got home from my workout and I got complimented on my squats AGAIN! This time by a really, really, really hot fellow. He said "that's pretty good, do you have any particular goal?" I could have said "squat butt" or "less flab" or something interesting, but nah. Plus I have the most incredible, wonderful, amazing boyfriend in the world. It was just one hell of an ego booster.

I forgot my lunch today and I was staaaaarving up until lunchtime. I had to run home, scarf down my lunch, and grab a snack for later, but I survived and managed to get in all of my meals...just not really at the right times. Tomorrow should be much better. I have a feeling my muscles are going to be soooooo tired tomorrow. My obliques were really sore today for some reason...I can't think of any reason why they would be, but hopefuly it'll be gone tomorrow. Oh man, so tired.

Hmm, I just reread the above post and realized what a jumbled mess it is. I also realized how badly I overuse the word "anywho". Oh well.

I told my mom about my squat accomplishments today on the phone, but instead of being excited like I thought she'd be, she started worrying. I forgot that she's a mom and that's what they do. She's afraid I'm going to hurt myself, and she doesn't see why I have to lift such heavy weights. I explained that I keep increasing the weight in order to challenge myself. If I don't up the weight, it gets too easy and I'm no longer improving. She asked why I can't just do more reps. She's in great shape and doesn't lift super heavy weight, but she also has a herniated disc in her back that she swears up and down is due to her trainer making her lift heavy, so she's concerned for my safety. She also thinks I'm going to get big and bulky, but I'm not at all worried about that. Even if by some ridiculous chance I do get too bulky, I don't think I'd have a very hard time LOSING muscle. Losing muscle would be way easier than building it anyway.

Alright, that's enough rambling, I'm going to bed now. It's over an hour past my bedtime.

I tend to overuse the word anyhoo too...so I normally go back and delete it haha. Anyway, about the mom thing, my mom thinks I'm going to die from rock climbing and really doesn't wnat me to do it too. And my mom thinks I'm going to get big and bulky too and she wants me to be "slender". Well....good night!!!

I cooked up a storm tonight. The stuffed mushrooms are in the oven, and I'm going to go over on my calories tonight trying one. Just the way it's gotta be, but I promise it'll be a small one. I did HIIT tonight, but my energy was seriously lacking. I didn't push myself nearly as hard as usual. :sigh: Oh well. I'll make up for it on Thursday (which also happens to be the day my boyfriend gets back in town, I'll be anxious to get it over with so I can see him).

Since this is my place to discuss weird things (or at least that's the impression I got from Nacersusaf's journal), I'd like to address something that concerns me a little. My left side is fatter than my right side. Noticeably fatter. Like, I look down at my gut and it sticks waaaay further out on the left. I don't think anyone else would notice, and I'm sure it'll go away, but I just find it odd and I felt the need to share. It seems I lose weight everywhere but my stomach. It's shrunken a little bit, but not as much as I'd like it to. I know that it's 90% diet, and I feel that I've been doing really well in that department lately, so now it's 90% patience, and that's where I'm seeeeriously lacking.

Hey I have the same problem!! One of my sides are crooked...like you could sort of see my curves on one side but not the other. It's not too noticeable but I see it very clearly. The weight will come off your stomach sooner or later. I guess fat just comes off where it wants to...but if you're working hard and eating right, I doubt you will have a slender body w/ a fat stomach . Being patient is hard but remember that you have a whole support group here and we're here for you whenever you need us!! So vent some more!!! Maybe that will make you feel better .

Lol, thanks Jeanie. I'm too tired to rant at the moment, but I will probably take you up on the offer sometime in the near future. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only lopsided one. I kinda figure it's normal, I just hope my left side catches up soon.

Calling Leigh if you're out there. About the nutritional info on those mushrooms...how big of a mushroom are we talking here? Mine are all different sizes, so I had a hard time calculating my calories for the day. Also, I used lowfat cream cheese because the nonfat one had a TON of weird, artificial ingredients.

Last night's workout was odd, I had very little energy, and even when I REALLY pushed myself, I couldn't finish my last set on a few excercises. I did up the weight on a few, but normally I can finish a set if I try reaaaaaaaaaaally hard, and this time I couldn't. I haven't been getting to bed as early as usual this week though, and I think it might be catching up to me. Plus I've been busting my ass at work every day and that saps most of my energy. By the time I get to the gym, I'm running on fumes.

Speaking of work, it's time for me to go. I hope someone actually replies to my journal today. :P
