    Bodyfat average or lean or high?

    I'm reading the sticky on nutrition and under the fat guidelines it looks like there are two options, average or lean, or high? I'd like to give myself the benefit of the doubt and I'm say average or lean but I'd like to know the definition of this, I dont know for sure my bodyfat but the bodyfat scale I have says 20% and based on photos I've seen I'd say this is a decent guess, would that be in the high bodyfat zone or more average?

    Scale = notoriously inaccurate.

    This chart gets thrown around-- as good a guide as any:

    Classification - Women (% fat) Men (% fat)
    Essential Fat - 10-12% 2-4%
    Athletes - 14-20% 6-13%
    Fitness - 21-24% 14-17%
    Acceptable - 25-31% 18-25%
    Obese - 32% plus 25% plus

    I'd translate the "fitness" range to "average" for your purposes, so 14-17%.
