What other things are you draining your money into? alcohol, going out with friends? Ditch 'em if you're that worried about shrinking. If you're not doing that stuff then go for the cheap food like whitey said

    This.

I'm broke too, but with these staples I'm still able to eat plenty and still get good nutrition (well, somewhat good). Milk, bread, oatmeal and mozzarella cheese are cheap too. Hit up local farmers markets too if you can for better quality and prices.

I was definitely in the same boat back in college. My parents were nice enough to provide a little bit of money and after my 2nd year I was lucky enough to get a job on campus that gave me about $400/month, that helped out a lot.

Again, like the other said, the staples don't cost much. Oatmeal, rice, peanut butter, tuna, eggs, etc. don't cost much. Make sure you're getting your veggies/fruits in there somewhere. Apples, bananas, carrots, celery, broccoli, & leafy greens are generally pretty cheap, I strayed away from berries, tomatoes, etc since they seem to cost more due to fragile shipping.

I'm a grad student now, although making much less than I should be if accounting for cost of living expenses, and have a greater budget for food since nutrition is way more important and I still don't do many activities that cost money.

    Good luck Frem!

Do what i do when im skint due to lack of work hours and buy/eat the following-

Sausages (Pack of 8) but I personally eat 7 sausages per meal = £1
1KG bag of pasta (even in huge helpings you will get atleast 10 huge plates of pasta) = £1.50 / 15pence per plate.
    2 frozen grilled chicken pieces = £1
Thick sliced white bread (about 20slices) = £1

it's good that you cook brah - cook stuff in bulk - container it up and freeze it, stir fry's are easy, and you can make some relatively cheap pizzas too...generic brand tuna is your best friend
