I want to start making green smoothies, carrot juice etc, and not a juicer, so I keep all the pulp. I have a Oster blender right now and as an experiment, I tried to blend some baby carrots, piece of ginger and water. The result was not smooth, and not appetizing.
I know the standard is Blendtec/Vitamix, and I may have to save up for those, just wondering if there's a cheaper alternative.

How old is your Oster? I have a newer one and its great. Mine has 10 settings I think, plus a low and high setting for each one. Metal base, glass jar. Ice is no problem, make spinach smoothies sometimes with it all being pureed, and no chunks left.
BTW, ginger + carrots + water isnt going to taste good no matter what blender you use.

Maybe yours is more powerful? Mine is plastic base and glass jar, same settings I think. I don't mind the taste as much as the texture, it still was very fibrous and not a smooth pulp. Another e.g. when I blend frozen berries in my protein shake, I can see seeds. From the videos I've seen (and from JambaJuice) the high powered blenders also break the seeds down so its smooth.
