What honestly makes SAS "supposedly" the best in the world? What sets them apart??

Many top SF groups are modeled, at least to some degree, after them eg: SASR and Sayeret Matkal.

The SAS (British( have been around for quite some time (formed during WW2) and have veru rigorous training and selection.

SAS specialises in small team recon and are probably more like the Navy SEALS than green berets or rangers

The SAS have some of the most intense training and selection process, they are known to train other special forces across the world, they have numerous success stories and you rarely hear about a casualty.

The first elite force in the World, all other forces (including Delta Force) base their training on the SAS training but have, so far, failed to match it in terms of difficulty. Most will call upon the SAS to conduct training for their troops - including the US, Dutch, Israeli and German forces.

Also the SAS is what all those other guys (Navy seals, Delta Force etc) are loosely modeled on. Same way the CIA was modeled on Mi6.

Plus the SAS have proven themselves in a lot of battles/hostage situations.

How do you define an elite force as the best? SAS are some serious bro's but are they the best? Canada has the JTF2 which are considered some of the most badazz mutha's out there, but are they the best? Really hard to say who is the best.
