    Question Kurt Angle's Neck

Anyone know the real story on his neck?

He boasts of winning the Olympic Gold Medal with a "broken freakin' neck" which is a shoot comment if there ever was one in the world of professional wrestling...

My question is, how did he originally break it? And did he legitimately break it a second time during his WWE career?

This has to be one of my favorite and most chilling wrestling quotes btw:
"My neck was broken, they told me I need to call it quits, they told me it could end my life. Somebody tell them...this is my life." - Kurt Angle

    Yes it was indeed broken.

He broke it months before and had rehab and stuff done on it and still entered and won the Gold Medal. The doctors told him to never wrestle again. He obviously denied.

He competed with a broken neck in the Olympic trials, not the actual Olympics themselves. He fractured two of his cervical vertebrae and herniated two discs (pulled some muscles too). He won the trials in that condition and then just rested until the actual olympics and won those.

Pretty damn impressive tbh, winning the Olympics a few months after such an injury. He got addicted to pain killers because of it!
There is but one path....we kill them all.

    wiki:

Angle faced further hardships while taking part in the 1996 Olympic Trials, when he suffered a severe neck injury, fracturing two of his cervical vertebrae,[17] herniating two discs, and pulling four muscles. Nonetheless, Angle won the trials and then spent the subsequent five months resting and rehabilitating. By the Olympics, Angle was able to compete, albeit with several pain-reducing injections in his neck.[9] In the fall of 2006, Angle stated that he temporarily became addicted to the analgesic Vicodin after injuring his neck.[18] He won his gold medal in the heavyweight (90–100 kg; 198–220 lb) weight class despite his injury
On April 11, 2003, Angle underwent neck surgery performed by Dr. Hae-Dong Jho to repair nerve and spinal damage, calcium buildup, bone spurs, and intervertebral disc problems. Rather than have Dr. Jho remove the afflicted discs and fuse his vertebrae together, Angle opted for a less conventional surgery where Jho removed only the spurs and selected portions of the discs. The alternative surgery reduced Angle's rehabilitation time from one year to three months.[49] He returned as a fan favorite in June.

He sensationalizes it a bit with his promos but he didn in fact have a severe neck injury during the 1996 Olympics. Technically, yes it was "broken"
My question is, how did he originally break it? And did he legitimately break it a second time during his WWE career?
I don't think it was "broken" the second time but it was badly injured and he was risking serious injury each time he competed. His WM19 match with Lesnar is very significant because of the risks he endured. Lesnar was very concerned for Angle because Lesnar knew the type of match Kurt wanted to have (very physical) and he didn't want to hurt him. Ironic that it was Brock who nearly broke his neck in that match.

If you can find a copy, read Kurt's autobiography. It is a great read that gives so much insight to the guy. One of the better autobiographies out there.
