Ways to squat without a bar?

I have some issue with my shoulder thats a lot of big words but to sum up my doctor said I should avoid squatting because having my arm in that position could be detrimental. So are there any exercises besides leg press (don't really have one at campus gym) that work the quads and are good for putting on mass?

    Thanks,
    Cam

    possibly using DB's.....

but you wont get the same effect as squatting.

    can you do front squats?

have you tried positioning your arms/bar differently?

You could try other forms of squatting that don't require you to place your arm in a position that causes issues?

meh, barbell squats are a luxury among others (including leg press). I know they aren't the same, but I feel that body weight squats (especially one legged) shouldn't be disregarded.

OOC, why aren't you doing deadlifts or db squats? same reason?

Like the other post before, DB squats...also kettle bell squats, and if you have money buy a weighted vest.
    Edit: also stiff legged deadlifts

Its the arm being outside of the body and supporting weight. So anywhere above my shoulder is kind of a no no

Belt squat are a good one. You can also buy a safety squat bar, they have handles in the front to hold on to so theres no shoulder discomfort.

I dont know anything about your condition but could you do front squats? maybe with your arms crossed and your palms facing your chest holding the bar.

You could try goblet squats, one-legged squats, lunges, bulgarian split squats and squats with a weight belt attached, but smith machine squats would work as well.

If your campus has a smith machine, could you use that, or would it hurt your shoulder?
