I'm just curios, do you ever meet people who seem to be under the impression that once they start taking nitric oxide, or drinking whey protein, or start taking fat loss pills, that they are going to immediately and easily get strong and lean. They act as is the supplement is going to do it all for them, and seem to forget, supplements or not, you have to bust your a$$ to get to get a good body. Just wondering, has anyone ever met anyone like this?

You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when my sister brought LoneWolf720 home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then LoneWolf720 joined in later. And six months ago, when LoneWolf720 introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together, in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and *******.

I've met a lot of people in my day who put an extraordinarily large amount of faith in the 5.56 caliber NATO round. Eugene Stoner was working under the impression that a smaller projectile fired at a much higher rate of speed would provide the same terminal ballistics as the much larger 7.62 projectile fired at a slower rate. Ask anyone who served in Vietnam just how happy they were when they had to switch from their trusty beast of an M14 to the M16. Ask our current soldiers how effective they feel it is knowing that there is a higher likelihood you will need to hit your target several times as opposed to just once. What do you think?

The 5.56 round was designed for a 20" barrel. Our guys in Afghanistan are shooting from mountain to mountain with a 14.5" barrel. That's a big problem. Logistics also come in to play. It's a lot harder to pack a bunch of .308 than it is 5.56. Plus, the range of the 5.56 is much greater than the 7.62 round shot out of the AK. The damage done by the 5.56 is directly related to thickness of the target and velocity of the bullet. The higher the velocity, the more reliable the fragmentation. The thicker the target, the more time to allow fragmentation. Shooting a 140lbs Afghani from 800yds with an M4 is going to poke small holes in him. An American soldier got hit with friendly fire in the thigh, the bullet missed bone but shattered his femur anway, due to energy form the bullet.
The Army (or Marines, forget which one) is now starting to use a 5.56 round with a different powder in it. It is a high efficiency powder, so you get more burn in the short 14.5 barrels. This gives you more muzzle velocity, helping to negate some effects from the short barrels.IamJons Awesome workout log:

No I don't mean the 7.62x39 I'm talking about the NATO round. Agreed on carrying capacity with the weight difference but there's also the relationship of the number of 308 rounds needed to terminate a target vs the number of 5.56 it is taking at longer ranges. Obviously a soldier should be carrying at least a few hundred rounds and the weight can become significant. I do not dispute 5.56 as an effective close range caliber but at longer ranges it is becoming abysmal.
And if I remember correctly the original 5.56 penetrator rounds were 55 grains which worked best in a slow twist, 1:11 or 12. The modern barrels are spinning at a much faster rate compounded with heavier projectiles and this is creating a situation where it is spinning so fast it isn't going off axis and simply drilling holes rather than creating massive trauma. The irony is the lighter bullet in a slower twist was incredibly accurate and deadly at the same time.
I'm glad we've managed to turn this thread into a productive discussion!!Xtreme Formulations
