There's a Keto section on bb.com forums FYI...I believe the average is about 50g in order to ensure you're never in ketosis.

I'm pretty sure your understanding of ketosis is completely flawed, though, if you're concerned about what this number is. I can not think of any reason why you'd want to eat as few carbs as possible while making sure to stay out of ketosis.

Maybe my idea of ketosis is flawed.

As I understand it takes place when your glycogen is depleted.

I want to have enough glycogen for energy and building muscle while keeping my carbohydrates at a minimum. (I have insulin problems)

If you just went into ketosis your body would begin using ketones for energy instead. You wouldn't even need any carbs at all.

Yes but your body uses the ketones because it doesn't have glucose to use, correct?

If you want to (or have to) drop carbs for whatever reason (i.e. the insulin problems you mention), then just drop carbs.

The term "ketosis" just means the ketones in your blood reached a certain level. There won't be any noticeable difference in glycogen capacity between 30g carbs per day and being "in ketosis" vs. 50g carbs per day and technically not being "in ketosis." Ketosis is not an on/off switch that your muscles will respond to, its just an indicator of the ketone levels in the blood.

You don't need carbs to build muscle, and you can derive plenty of energy (to train) from dietary fat. If you want to go low carb, just go full keto and eat 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs.
