    Question when to deadlift...

right now I do a 5 day split.

    M - chest
    T - back
    W - legs
    TH - shoulders
    F - arms

I've really been focusing a lot on my squat lately (goal is to squat 405 by 1 April) so I have been doing squats on leg day and haven't done deadlifts in a while. also, considering my back day is right before leg day I haven't been doing deadlifts on back day either. I feel like my lower back is being neglected. I'm thinking about doing deadlifts 1st thing on my arm day.

    thoughts?

I actually like your idea a lot.

I know, personally, my quad day comes after my day I do deadlifts and it sucks with my low back so fatigued already.

yeah. and like I said my goal is geared toward hitting my squat goal right now but I don't wanna be unbalanced.

I'm gonna try it out for a few weeks, I'll let you know how it works out.

Doing deads on your arm day seem like an Ok idea. I'm assuming that it will be only deadlifts and not including hamstrings (Do you do those on leg day ?). Doing both may cut into your arm time.

If you include shrugs on your shoulder day (Thursday), that might be rough on your traps doing deadlifts the next day. For me, doing deadlifts works my traps a bit and they are often sore the next few days.

Random thought: The owner of my gym mentioned once how he was training for a deadlift competition. He mentioned how when he started cutting down on squats his deadlift went down too. Even though you currently don't have deads incorporated into your workout, doing those heavy squats have probably helped your lower back a little bit too.

yeah I do hamstrings on leg day too.

if my traps do get sore from the DL's I'll just move my trap work to back day.

that makes sense about the squats providing some lower back. I guess I'll find out on Friday lol
