I think it's done subconsciously to get help. By injuring yourself, you're attracting the attention of others, and letting them know you're "hurt", thus attracting help. And consciously they may do it to show self pity, attention, or for whatever other reasons I've heard.

Why is she grabbing on to more attention like this. There are many vids on youtube with the index cards saying I've been bullied or harassed etc. If people are calling her a whore bitch slut whatever why doesnt she talk to the teachers or the principals about it.
