What about taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin? It has 2g of carbohydrates but it saves my joints. Will this knock me out of ketosis or will I be fine taking this?

is there a reason you want to try keto? fat loss im guessing?
have you tried a regular cut first with a moderate carb intake? if not, try that for a few months before you go to keto. it works wonderful for mr.

Ive actually tried moderate carbs and my body doesn't respond well to it. Yes I want to do it for fat loss, but I don't know what my macro nutrients should look like?...I lift 4 times a week and I also just started doing some cardio after workouts

So if my goal is fat loss should I never do a carb load? or is it good to do one every few weeks? I attempted keto once before but failed because of the moody, grouchy, fatigued feeling I had for the first few days which just caused problems at work. Being a bit older and more mature now I will attempt it again. I have never been able to shed the body fat around my stomach. I'm quite lean around the rest of my body, and I've been exercising for the last 3 years or more. I was always on a moderate to high carb diet through so here's hoping this will do the trick.

How would a ketogenic diet effect a type one (insulin dependent) diabetic? I have ketostix in my home at all times, in case of an insulin pump malfunction overnight, where I start to generate ketones because there's no insulin in my body to break down the sugars. Obviously, this is a bad thing. What is the difference between ketosis and diabetic ketoacidosis?

I eat almonds, just watch the macros. You'll find some that have higher fiber than others. My guess, without doing research, about the PB being "good" is the additional types of oil in the jar. I also use almond PB with flaxseed.

I just take some whey, maybe eat a little bit. I know some people will add malodextrin, but I haven't gone that route yet.

Thats what I figured just wanted to make sure. I'm going to start cycling (CKD) next month after I've been fully induced into keto. Thanks

I would like to ask, is it right? Keto diet initial stage to control protein intake ( per pound of not more than 1 grams ), ensure the fat intake ( per pound of at least 1 grams ), can enter ketosis?

Lactose is a carbohydrate. You are better off skipping the milk and for things like your coffee use heavy cream instead.

Why are cashews classified as "good" in your "Ultimate List of Ketogenic Foods"? That doesn't make sense to me.

    Calories percentage

Hello all, new to the Keto diet and is currently on the planning phase.

I used the BMR/calories calculator from the guide and I got the following results:

    "TO LOSE WEIGHT:
To lose a pound a week safely decrease your daily intake to 1,749 calories.

You have decided to eat 20 grams of carbohydrate a day. To avoid loss of lean muscle mass you must eat 228 grams of high quality protein each day. This can be found in 38.0 ounces of meat, eggs, or hard cheese.

Round out your diet with 84 grams of fat."

I did some calculations and it turns out my calories percentage is 4.574% from carbs, 52.1441% from protein, and 43.2247% from fat. Does that sound right? I thought I should aim for 5% carb, 30% protein and 65% fat. Please advise!

    Thanks in advance!

    Increasing ketosis

I've been in ketosis now for 3 months - this thread has been a HUGE help! - but my weight loss has tapered off. I still have about 15 lbs to go. Do I go off it for a week, and restart? Any ideas to spike my metabolism?

    Thanks!

Would anyone have any further reading material I could look into to understand the whole process of ketosis? I'm very interested in how it works.

Also, has anyone had any success on a bulk under ketosis? I mean holy shet if I can lose fat while gaining muscle I might as well try it.

    Smile Calories?

Your thread is the most helpful thing I've found on the Internet. Well done for putting in your own time! My question is calories. Thank u for making the % macros very clear. But what is the lowest calories I should take in? Currently 800, 600 if i can but its v hard. 5'7 female???Trying to keep carbs under 20g but its soooo impossible tho I am limiting veg (was previously doing ketosis + buckets of the *allowed* veg and wasn't getting into ketosis) to 1 cup and 2 cups salad. I am also a vegetarian and it's an extra factor to say the least!!! Don't do much dairy either. Cant bring myself to but cream but taking a lot of udos oil. Generally Eggs and protein pancakes, hell yes! Anyway, calories??? Thanks
