    Strength or Size?

Which do you guys prefer? To be strong or being overall massive? My main goal is to get big but I cant stand it when I have a feeling my friends are going to surpass my strength.

Kinda torn between the two, I considered doing the power/hypertrophy split but I know it would be easier for me to do either strength or hypertrophy to see better gains on either my strength or size. So back to the question at hand, what do you guys prefer, and do any of you ever feel the same way?

Strength of course. It would suck to be huge but not have much strength.

The two are directly correlated. The goal of ANY well written program should be to gain strength. People get confused about submaximal vs. maximal strength.

That goes for any hobby on the planet. I frankly don't give a damn if a quarterback in the NFL can throw a football well. If it's what he like to do though, then so be it.

Im just saying that not a lot of people appreciate strength opposed to looking 'jacked'. Telling someone you can bench 405 orwhatever means nothing. Looking like you can bench 405 on the other hand...

If OP wants to lift for strength, then by all means do so lol.

I'm small as **** though cuz I train for strength on maintenance/small surplus. Actually my diet is wicked messed up so it varies everyday. So I saw maintenance.

both? the key to any good program is to go heavy over a period of time say two weeks or so, Because it causes your muscles to work harder and grow bigger (thats the easiest explanation i could give). So BOTH should be your focus.
    Goals:
    squat: 315x1
    Deadlift: 370x1

actually I also fall into this category, for my purpose of lifting weights, which I started doing when decided I wanted to join the military being strong is important but also being fast is important, and if your my height 5'8" and weigh 170lbs you're not going to make a very good distance runner unfortunately.

and not to mention that the human body is only designed to carry a certain amount of mass, so on a BMI scale there is a certain range height-weight ratio that is considered healthy, and being outside mostly above that range, is unhealthy regardless of how much musclemass you have.

Started out STRICTLY SIZE in the beginning, strength didn't mean ****.

Went through a little phase when all I cared about is strength.

Definitely training for both now with layne's routine, and want to continually find a way to balance both for the rest of my life.

For me, strength means absolutely nothing. I'm a competitive bodybuilder.

It doesn't matter if I can bench 451lbs or 154lb....so long as it 'looks' like I can bench the former.

Albeit gaining mass and training hard, the strength will come.

    You must be ****ing joking.

You're the retard going on about how important it is then some random dumbshits you meet in the strength think you look big, then you mock the idea of people who actually KNOW about lifting respecting you?

'Gym respect? Who cares! I only give a crap about what 135lb dickheads and sluts with tits think!'

So back to the question at hand, what do you guys prefer, and do any of you ever feel the same way?
in my opinion the two go pretty hand in hand, but i would prefer to be strong and smaller cause when your big ppl expect you to be strong. lil guys that lift big with good form always impress me.
