Cause that's what my room mate has said on multiple occasions. I googled that and all I got was some BS on how lil wayne can hold his breath for a long time despite being a heavy smoker. Chacha gave me some more BS about emphysema or something.
Anyway his reasoning is that since a smoker's body is use to not having a lot of oxygen in their lungs, then they are more capable of sitting still and holding their breath longer.
when it comes to holding your breath and being active, a non-smoker takes the cake. I can't believe this can be true, what do you think?

Google and chacha are clearly the authorities on the effects of carcinogens and various other toxins on the delicate respiratory structure of human lungs.
OP maybe you should just hold you breath until you pass out, then try it again when you wake up.
Or just hang yourself.I don't rep back - I don't want your reps

Honestly...I didn't think so but when I've been smoking for a while now and I in fact CAN and always do manage to hold my breath longer than non-smokers. I figured this out in a class where we had to do an experiment to find the average time someone could do without air.
This is broscience but doesn't it make sense that the lack of oxygen from holding your breath is less shocking to your body if your body is already used to the lack of oxygen? In reality we can all hold our breaths for a lot longer than a minute or two if we train ourselves (David Blaine). The Jerk store called, they're running out of you!
