as it is generally accepted as the 'politically correct' term for black people, to be the most ridiculous generalized title ever. Do you have any idea how many problems I've had when checking off the "African American" box on govt. documents, school and job applications and they see a blonde, white guy standing in front of them?

Yeah, that term is retarded, there was a news story where some white dude from SA got kicked out of college because he said he was African American. What's even so offensive or wrong with the term "black"? Someone gets offended when you are called white?

I agree. I wouldn't check "African-American" though. Probably hurts you more than it helps for the simple reason that people in America think "black" when they see African-American, and when you're not black they probably will think that you are untrustworthy. I would suggest checking "Other" and writing in "Afrikaner."

I agree OP.
White people aren't called European Americans, so why do black people allow themselves to be called African American?
(I'm not black, just someone from the outside looking in perspective)

I think it is funny when black people from outside the US are called AAs. Lennox Lewis is the GOAT African American boxer.

Wait, who here actually has been called racist after calling someone black? I haven't seen that happen IRL.
