    Half a gallon of milk a day?

    I've been trying to gain weight for a while now, and my new goal is to weigh at least 205 by the start of summer. I look at the nutrition facts and if I drank half a gallon of 2% milk a day that would be 1040 calories with 64 grams of protein. Add in about 3 scoops of protein per day and that brings the total to 1430 calories and 136 grams of protein a day. Surely this along with my normal meals will bring me above maintaince and ill start to gain weight fast. MY question to you is that is this a good idea? Is there any strong negatives to trtying this?

    Simply put, if you're above your caloric maintenance, you will gain weight. If you're drinking a half gallon of milk and eating your meals yet still not meeting your maintenance, you will not gain weight.

    Most of it will be fat instead of muscle gain. Keep in mind that muscle growth is fairly slow regardless of how many extra calories you consume.

    Yea but won't a decent amount of it be muscle? I don't plan on sticking at 205, but hopefully at 205 I will be a lot bigger and stronger then i am.

    yeah but if you drink a WHOLE gallon of milk every Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday, while jumping on one foot and smacking your ass with your right hand, 17 times and 34 times respectively on Monday and Wednesday, you can gain that much muscle in only 2 months!

    If you were a noob, maybe half would be muscle. You would definitely be bigger, and probabaly stronger, but I don't think you'd have the physique that you're imagining.

    Ask yourself this: why put on unnecessary fat just to have to cut it off later (time wasted cutting when you could have been bulking)?

    If you want to hit an arbitrary number on a scale, knock yourself out. Setting more realistic goals will yield better results, IMO. How about gaining 1 pound per week until the middle of May or whatever, then go on a short, aggresive cut?

    A few hundred calories over maintenance is all that's needed to gain lean mass efficiently without too much fat.

    Your plan sounds like a recipe to get fat quick.

    An aggressive cut is a recipe for losing lean mass quick. Anything more than -750cal is pushing your luck....

    Thanks guys, i'm now putting together a diet that will equal to about 3500 calories. The goal is one to two pounds a week. I'm not sure if I should mess with macros yet???

    Its a good source of protein and carbs, keep in mind most of the cals come from carbs tho, and sugar to be specific. Sugar typiclly = fat gain
