White male only scholarship in Texas: appropriate or not appropriate?

I think the history of minority based scholarships was due to systematic discrimination in America that prevented minority groups from attaining quality jobs, education, scholarships, assistance, etc. But is there reasoning enough in 2011 for a white male only scholarship?

I don't think that whether it's appropriate or not should even be in question. They have scholarships for eveything else related to race and ethnicity so what's one more?

should it really matter at all? no, but some people like to bitch and moan, and call racism etc. make fun of everything or nothing. what happened in the past, happened, and only making a bigger issue out of it now wont make it go away then. i see no problem with this.

but it also depends on whos money it is coming from, b/c then it is there choice on who they want to give it to...

If there can be a blacks only scholarship, and an Asians only scholarship, and Hispanic only scholarship, then there can and should be a whites only scholarship. That being said, I don't like the idea of any of these scholarships in general. Reverse racism is just racism. There should not be a single race-promoted scholarship. They should be based on 1) merit, and/or 2) need, and that's it. If affirmative action gives a lesser qualified student a white student's spot in a school, and a race-based scholarship gives a minority a lesser financial burden (especially in this day and age where many Hispanics and Asians and African Americans are in the same financial standing as whites), then whites should have the same opportunity.
