    Are all multivitamins the same?

^^ I am sure many sales reps would answer, "No!".

But, what would be the difference between getting a private-label multivitamin versus a name brand multivitamin such as Centrum and the like?

I'm not talking about hard-core supplements, but rather a multivitamin to meet all your nutritional needs?

Well, most multi vitamins suck and can hardly be absorbed or used by the body.

exactly. Most that you get at huge chains are pretty much shellacked and will slide through your body and out your other end. Wasted money.

I would go with maybe a universal animal or perhaps even a GNC mega sport at the very least. Do your homework...there are alot of great brands out there for decent money. The other huge difference is in the ingredients. There are some that add extra little nuggets of goodies. An example would be not needing to supplement with ZMA if it's already in your multi. So, even if you pay a bit more for a certain brand you may end up saving by not needing additional supplements in some cases.

In the case of vitamins, buying a brand name may be the best choice.

FTW, multi is most important part of diet IMO.

The best sources of vitamins/minerals/micronutrients are always natural, non-man made foods.

Some of the most nutrient rich foods in the world are spirulina, chlorella, wheat grass, nutritional yeast, and barley grass.

Shouldn't healthy whole foods be the most important part of the diet?

hopefully you mean supplements. I would beg to differ though if you are eating a truly well balanced diet with veggies and fruits a multivitamin isn't even necessary but few do that. All a multi is is a backup plan, if you wanna venture into supplementing with herbs/antioxidants/other exotic or pharmaceutical grade stuff then you are adding to a diet and healthy but multis *shouldn't* be necessary but being so cheap you might as well take them..

alcohol sucks b/c its quickly converted through the liver and generally is gonna get restored as fat if not burnt off as glycogen, it also messes with your hormones and your body will try to rid itself of the alcohol before repairing muscle tissue or burning fat stores.

Yeah, the point of the message wasn't, "Can I take multivitamins so I don't have to eat healthy foods".

The point of the question was, "I want to take a good multivitamin to make up for any shortfalls I may have in my diet of healthy foods"

Apparently I should've put that disclaimer in my original post, like I originally planned.

To help with absorption, take them with your biggest meal that includes fats.

Amost forgot, and of course always get iron free unless your doctor says you need to supplement iron.
