    Yogurt instead of Cottage Cheese

I cant stand cottage cheese, tried it different ways but it still makes me gag. I wanted to know for a prebed meal if this would be okay instead of the cottage cheese

    1 cup low fat yogurt
    1 scoop whey

    should I add anything?

heres the rest of my diet, just a sample off day.

breakfeast 2 eggs 3-5 eggwhites 2/3 cups oatmeal and a banana
mid morning turkey sandwhich loaded with veggies apple and glass of milk
lunch chicken and rice and vegetables
mid day protein shake with 1 scoop whey 2/3 cups grounded oats and fruit
dinner potatoes and salmon and veggies
    prebed yogurt and whey

    I probably hit 180g protein, 300g carbs, 50g fats.

    Yes, you're cool.

In my 16 years of working out, I've never eaten CC. I only eat the foods I want. So, if I want cheese, well, I'm eating the cheese I like, Swiss. Not some crap that I can't stand!! lol

its not like its going to kill you if you dont eat cottage cheese before bed, its just that eating CC before bed might be of an advantage when trying to recruit LBM.

eat whatever you want before bed, just make sure its something slow digesting that will keep you anabolic for as long as possible. CC was always the #1 choice because its easy to come by, cheap, and full of protein.

well thats what I wanted to know is how it compares. But I do believe there has to be some level of enjoyment in the diet otherwise its not gonna last. And its a lifestyle change right so it better be good.

just watch which yogurt you get, because a lot of yogurts are ridiculously high in sugar and i do believe that it is high fructose corn syrup.

Ricotta cheese, Quark cheese, other fat-reduced cheese, or milk if you really want to have dairy before bed.

Or if you're like me, have a rib-eye steak or other fattier cuts of meat. The fat will slow down digestion enough to last you through the night.

I'll have to try that soon and see how it goes... Currently trying to tweak a nice manicotti prebed meal though, (whole wheat pasta/ricotta are main two ingredients) the problem with the other fat reduced cheeses (stuff that isn't highly spreadable/liquidy) is that they don't have near as good protein ratio for the calories in it.

I would use casein instead of whey for a slow digesting protein and i would watch the sugar in yogurt.

thank you guys.....I hate cottage cheese. Been taking a muscle Milk shake miked with water instead of milk as prebed meal. When I do deciede to cut, I am gonna need to layoff the MM, so I appreciate the ideas of using low sugar yogurt instead of cottage cheese.

I think his point of mixing the yogurt in with the whey would make it slow digesting anyway as the yogurt has casein in it. also, some of us are on a budget, casein protein is like twice as much as whey, and half the servings. for instance, i have both in optimum nutrition brands... my whey costs me .31 cents a scoop, my casein costs me 1.07 a scoop... When I run out of casein I'm gonna go with some kind of cottage cheese/yogurt/ricotta/whey/oats mix instead.

Plain fat free yogurts have no sugar from HFSC. There is still sugar from the lactose but I believe that it is "eaten" by the active cultures.

Original poster- I wouldn't necessarily use whey. A casein protein is optimal but a blend would be more multipurpose.

yup, that's why i said just to keep an eye out. hfcs is something that should be avoided regardless of what it is in (a lot of whole wheats also).

Yeah I run into HFCS in WW bread all of the time. I find it so hard to believe that so many of the "healthier" breads use HFCS. It took my 10 minutes to find a good bread today.

The only real alternative is to buy the organic bakery breads. They tend not to have HFSC but are twice the price.

    16 g of CC+ whey 30 g+ 5 g pb=50 g of protein b4 bed is more than enough.
Dont forget its slow digesting, plus i get about 120 g of protein from meat, not to mention PW shake, morning shake and random pre workout shakes.

oh nah, that wasn't what I was trying to say, but what I was thinking was correct, whatever protein scoop you are using is quite a bit less than mine, yours have 15g scoop, mine are 24, thats why I thought you were putting more than necessary in there...anyway looks good

i havent really kept up with this thread but im going to assume the usual "nut up and down your cc like a man!" remark has been made. lol. if you dont like cc, just dont eat it. there is nothing magical about it other than it deliciousness. replacing with yogurt, milk, eggs, meat, soy, etc is just as comparable. especially when you consider that more than likely you are adding a fat source to your meal which assists in slowing down digestion.

side note: if you want a yogurt with less carbs and more protein look for greek yogurt. that stuff is fantastic.

Oh dear god you have to send me that manicotti recipe once you get it nailed down.

I come from an Italian background and cheese is by far one of the foods I miss. I love me the CC, I wish someone would have told me about it sooner.

Heh, I use to eat a serving of manicotti from Carraba's so fast, the bowl would still be steaming when I was down. . . maybe thats why I was kinda husky?
