Not sure why you are worrying.... But.....

livestrong says...." A ramen package has 54 g, 18 percent of the daily value. Most adults should consume 40 to 60 percent of their daily carbohydrates from complex carbohydrates.

Found online, so it must be true:

"Ramen noodles unfortunately are not very good for you. Each package contains about 1560 mg of sodium. To remove the water and form them into blocks, they are deep fried in palm oil which is about the most saturated fat there is. Look in your local Asian food store, though, and you may find some that are baked or freeze dried without the oil. Check the ingredients--about 720 different varieties/flavors of ramen are available. For what it's worth, the average Japanese eats about 45 packages a year and, other than sumo wrestlers, ain't too many of them chubby."

+1. I'd rather eat virtually any fast food meal, at least I'll be getting some other passable macro's along with my epic sodium hit. And to my eye, they seem to be the very definition of a refined carb.

That being said, if you must, what I've done in the past is to use only a fraction of the seasoning packet, add an egg and some frozen mixed veggies into the pot and they seem much more passable that way.

Ramen are crap. However, pasta is usually made with white flour, putting it in the simple carb category. White flour based products account for a lot of simple carb products (chips, pizza, deserts, etc). Ramen noodles would fall into this category.

Unless its a saccharide polymer containing a small number of glucose molecules (i.e. glucose, sucrose, lactose) then it's a complex carb. Starches (breads, pasta, rice, etc.) are all complex carbs.

Read my post above. Just because a grain is refined (strips the bran and germ from the whole grain) does not affect the molecular structure of the carbohydrate. White bread and non-whole wheat products are still complex carbs.

Simple vs complex is a description of the molecular structure of the carbohydrate. It has absolutely nothing to do with the type of food that it is found in (pizza, cookie, etc.).

I gotcha man. You can go to several different sources of info on this topic and some of them will put refined starches in the simple carb category and some won't. This is just my opinion on the topic.

Mike is right, this isn't a matter of opinion it's very basic biology. Simple carbohydrates are monomers, complex carbohydrates are polymers, any polymer of a sugar however refined/black/white/undressed is still a complex carbohydrate.

It isn't a matter of opinion. Simple and complex are molecular structure terms.
