Posting this question in the nutrition section rather than the supplement section is wise of you. While whey protein is just fine, if your dad doesn't want you using it, it certainly isn't worth fighting about, as you can easily meet (no pun) your protein targets from whole food sources such as beef, poultry, pork, fish, dairy, etc.

Whey protein supplements are not bad for your health. But, they are unnecessary and a regular diet of protein-rich food is enough to get your daily macro.

As with many things in life whey protein is fine in moderation. It is a great addition to a healthy nutritional plan and provides very high biological value protein and bcaas.

There are no side effects to using whey protein (unless you're lactose intolerant) other than micronutrient deficiency, which can be easily remedied by consuming whole foods. Whey should be used as a supplement to help meet daily requirements, not as a sole source of protein.

I do, Cause i work for more than 11 hours a day & sometimes i don't have enough time to sit & eat a solid meal. But again, It's unnecessary.

IMO, whey is ok in moderation. Some kids on here have 4+ scoops a day which to me, is absurd. I think if your taking 1 scoop a day or every 2nd day then it can be really great but DO NOT over do it, there is not way it can possibly be healthy for anyone.

I work full time so i usually take a meal replacement shake with me during the week but every second day i bring extra food instead so i dont have to put some much of that stuff in my body.

    This post makes no sense.

That's like saying you can smoke a cigarette once every 2 days, but don't overdo it because then it's not healthy.

    How is whey not healthy?

Doesn't affect your kidneys anymore than milk does.

However, whole foods should be your main protein source. Whey powder is a "supplement" to help you meet your daily needs. Basically.. use whey when you have no other option.

Next time your dad gets a glass of milk or a bowl of cereal, slap it out of his hands and tell him you're protecting him from the evil whey.
