I currently work a 12hr shift daily from 1400-0200 which for right now is fine, but soon will be switching to a 0200-1400 shift, which is brutal for my sleep habit. I generally average less than 4hrs a night during the shift cycle. I would like not to have to resort to prescription drugs given my current location so I was wondering if any of the sleep aids I see here on bodybuilding would be of any help? I have tried mega doses of melatonin and valerian root with no success btw..

benadryl (diphenhydramine) is effective... the generic is very cheap. unisom and pills like that have the exact same active for 10x the cost. it can make you a little groggy the next day though, which i'm assuming is not ideal in your situation.

Haven't used Animal PM, but I do know that the deepest sleep I've ever gotten(with the added plus of some crazy dreams) is due to Bullet Proof...I feel these products are great especially for the believers, like me, that deep constant sleep is essential to good overall health and recovery.

You aren't supposed to take "mega doses" of Melatonin because melatonin becomes counterproductive when you take too much.
The recommended dose for sleep purposes is 0.5 mg, taking 6+ mg is considered too much and would actually make it harder to fall asleep because it shifts you to the otherside of the circadian rhythm curve

I find mega dosing of melatonin to do nothing, for me 3mg always works best, 3mg is really probably overkill but thats how the NOW caps come. I like Animal products, but for me PM did very little.
When I was struggling with Insomnia I had to get over it myself, no supps I tried did very much of anything for me. Ear plugs really helped me in a loud environment.
Hope things work out for ya bro.
