    Shoulder problems during chest exercises

    Hey Guys,

I'm having a bit of an issue with my right shoulder when preforming any type of pushing action. I dislocated it about 2 years ago and I believe that was the start of this issue. I get a nagging pain after a few reps. I can push out about 3 reps then I get the pain. It's not intense but, it's enough to tell me something is wrong. I manage to push out all my reps and the pain doesn't persist after my work out.

I do believe it's causing a range of motion issue as'well as I cannot bring the bar down all the way to my chest on some exercises. I get about 2-3 inches away from my chest. I'm a bit of a nitpick when it comes to my form and I'm wondering if that's ok if it has to be brought all the way down to touch my chest.

My shoulder cracks and pops an awful lot and it does bother me when I lay on that side of my body. I've never felt like it was going to pop out though just feels like the nagging pain as I stated earlier.

I realize you guys aren't doctors but, I'm sure you have some pointers for training. Should I maybe switch from free weights to machines for awhile til I build some more strength in my chest to take the pressure of my shoulder? I'm also more comfortable doing presses with dumb bells than a bar. I try to vary it though so I don't get used to doing it one way. Any advice is apprieciated.

I actually don't take any supplements for my shoulder. Is this something that could help. Actually, the only thing I'm taking is just your basic post work out. Which is Anabolic Window.

    Lol here we go again!

Dislocation of the shoulder usually occurs with a possible labrum tear and by the sound of his symptoms seems like thats what he could have.

NO JOINT SUPPS ARE GOING TO HELP THAT,
see your doctor and he may recommend physical therapy and or surgery

^^^ This is correct. Sounds very much like typical labrum damage. You should have it checked out and make sure there are no other issues going on. The extent if the damage, if any, will determine if surgery is necessary. If not, you will likely get on some RC strengthening and ROM plans under the direction of a PT. Don't let this go too long. Things can go down hill quickly in the shoulder. It's a very complicated joint and all the components are interdependent for proper function.

I'm trying to get in to see a doctor. I just moved to this city about 6 months ago and I'm having a really tough time finding a doctor. I should just look to see if there are any sports doctors in the area as they would probably be able to give me more relevant info.

I'm not sure if there if it's sitting lower than the other one I'll get back to you on that. The only time it bothers me is with chest exercises or if I'm laying on it I can feel some strain.

I guess I should lay of working out my chest for now until I get a professionals opinion?
