you know there are plenty of reasons why SEC gets some of those players right?... they pretty much lower their standards to let Non-qualifiers in. EX: look at Jadeveon Clowney this year. That guy is as dumb as a box of rocks, but will get in at SC.

respect and good luck wherever you choose, but what im curious to know, and bugs me due to my ignorance, is whether there is any academic basis to get into to get into top universities like northwestern, stanford, notre dame etc or if it's solely based on athletics?

They have a little bit, but not nearly as much as trying to go there without the aid of athletics.
