But I have a lot of joe satriani, malmsteen, steve vai and dream theater albums.

I used to wanna play like steve vai but then later on I really started to appreciate petrucci's playing more and would rather play like him than steve vai.

As for Gilbert stuff, I'd recommend the Racer X albums "Street Lethal" and "Superheroes". His solo albums get kind of weird and poppy, although I really enjoyed Burning Organ for what it was (most people probably won't, haha). His later solo material is a bit more guitar oriented, I haven't really listened to much of it.

I might check out some of those.

Nowadays I really just want to be able to play that larry carlton solo by guthrie govan and petrucci material.

That type of rock is too vanilla for me. Can't stand it.

I really like how rythmn guitar has evolved though. I'm glad it took over the shredding solos of the 80s and stuff

I love Brett hinds from mastodon too. That video sounded terrible though.
I used to have an AVI of my traps and neck. I changed it a while back and tried editing my user title but this website is glitched and it will not let me change it anymore.

I'd maybe my it was my phone but I thought the quality was off.
But yeah his sound and style are great.

I love deathklok. I'm gonna try to play thunderhorse on my bass since I don't have an electric guitar

Call me an idiot but I just bought the Epiphone signature ThunderHorse Explorer. I literally just bought an SG but my friend from work said he'll buy the SG off of me.

So when is the Misc jam track going to happen? Everyone takes a turn soloing over a track for a few measures. Seems like we have enough players. All skill levels would be welcome. Has any one tried anything like that here yet? I can make the track and mix everyone in.

Since my birthday (August 20th) I have gotten back into playing guitar. For well over a year and a half it was not fun for me, I did not enjoy playing.

Now I am enjoying it like I did when I first started, except I kept my awesome guitars :P

I almost sold my Washburn, I was in contact with Ola Englund (Feared, The Haunted) as he had expressed to me some interest about purchasing it. He changed his mind though and after that I did too.

Feels good to be playing again just for the fun of it.

Why is Mastodon's music so hard to learn? Can anyone please give me some tips with Divinations. I for the life of me cannot get the intro down. I know it's supposed to be hybrid picked but it's so awkward for my hands and there's no in-depth lesson on YT and tabs are not easy to figure out cause the overall rhythm is weird. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh lawd just listened to Divinations. Had the intro on repeat like a million times. Think the rhythm legit gave me autism.

Sounds slow enough just to pick. If you want to play it and can't, just approach it like anything else. Slow it down to a tempo you can play it at and gradually speed it up.

I need a vocaroo recording of the lead guitar cause the rhythm blends in too much and I can't make out what exactly the lead is supposed to sound like in the beginning.

Not sure if this is good, didn't downtune a step and never listened to the song, learned it straight from guitar pro. But you just need to practice the hybrid picking part slowly and let your brain get used to that odd rhythm

I think I get the idea, I'm practicing lesson material in E standard so I'm just trying to get the hang of it in standard tuning, this way when I eventually downtune I'll have it down. It's relatively helpful, still faster than I'd like but I'll cross reference it with the song and try to figure it out on the guitar. This song is driving me nuts, I like it so much and want to play it.

EDIT: WOW way better than Ultimate Guitar

has anyone else tried the Jamtrack Jam of the month?

    https://www.********.com/groups/JTCJamOfTheMonth/

I keep wanting to enter, but I can't find the damn time to practice over the backing tracks.
Hell it took me almost the entire month to enter the spring contest, I had to practice while I was on the road.

That's why I don't like learning certain metal or rock songs too much stuff blends in.

First time hearing about it. I noticed that every single player in the August jam uses a hybrid picking style... had no idea it was that popular now. Great players nonetheless

Why wouldn't it be? Seems it would be the natural evolution of modern music. More depth, more fun, more magic

Me personally I'll never pick up a disgusting pick. My flamenco picado and bass fingerpicking is getting fast enough to play most metal songs now which is about the only think a pick has over fingerpicking. I don't think my fingerpicking will ever be as sustainable as a pick though.

Faster than most people with a pic.

So I've been avoiding sight reading like the plague just working on chops and key exercises. But I took a crack at it tonight and dotted notes are giving more trouble than they should. I know it's pretty basic in concept but why is it so hard for me to execute. Probably just cause I don't practice sight reading enough right?
