Never played that guitar, but googled it and it's pretty expensive for an Epiphone that comes with stock pick ups, you can get better guitars for that value.

****t, saw 400 euros in some site.
Still, cheap Epiphones are for beginners, you're not going to get the best sound out of it. If you really like that one then buy it and get new pick ups which cost like 100-150 quid (decent ones).

imo Schecter makes the best guitars that are in that range of price (£200-£700)

I love DiMarzio's, got the X2N for my bridge pick up.

See what suits punk/indie the best from this list, I'm guessing the higher treble ones.

I'm not too familiar with indie though, so can't help you much. Also remember that the tone comes mainly from the amp.

DiMarzio is a very good brand, not too 'metal' but still has enough balls to be plenty 'metal' if need be. Also, take note of the pickups the guitarists in your favorite bands use - pretty soon you'll begin noticing common threads and then you can really make educated decisions, because switching pickups is a serious pain in the ass.

Any of you guys build pedals? I built a Vox Clyde McCoy replica and it was pretty simple. I'm looking to build this:

    http://www.geofex.com/FX_images/UVIC...ect%20File.pdf

But this is way out of my range. Mainly making my own circuit boards. I looked around the web and no one sells a board.

Anyone that makes pcb's let me know!

Also if someone is having pedal problems let me know, maybe I can help.

If its brand new, then it will have been set up at the factory. If that's the case leave it alone for now.

If its used chances are some moron messed with bridge. Look into the book: Guitar Player Repair Guide by Dan Erlewine. Explains everything about setting up and maintaining a guitar.

As for the sound of your pickups; that can be slightly modified easily by changing the value of the capacitor connected to the pickup. There's all sorts of info on changing your capacitor for a change in tone. There's a lot of guys searching for NOS oil in paper capacitors to get that vintage sound. Starting off just get a new capacitor for 25 cents at RadioShack.

Sorry for the info overload guys! Ask away if you guys have questions.

Edit: The Goth Explorer comes with the Alnico Classic Humbuckers and a mahogany body so it is well equipped to play just about anything.

Any of you here used the LTD AW7 guitar? It's Alex Wade's signature model.
I found a store that has that and since I've been wanting a 7 string for a while I think I'll buy it, It's either that or get a better six string than one I currently use, which is an Ibanez RGT6EXFX. But yeah, how good is that signature guitar?
    Do you guys recommend it?

I have an SG with 490s. Now those suck. I just tightened the pole pieces to get the sound a little hotter. I just don't understand why Gibson pickups cost so much. I put Fender Hot Noiseless pickups in my Strat and it only cost $80. You'd be lucky to get one good Gibson brand pickup for that!

I didn't read this whole thread, but did you guys put pics of your guitar gear up? Love to see what everyone's rockin!

Thanks bro, it's an oud which is a kind of lute but for middle eastern/Turkish music. It has 11 strings, the lowest one is single and the rest are tuned in doubles, so you're right 6 courses. I think that ouds with 7 courses are more common but I'm not sure about that.
IMO it works great for western music, see this at 1:45 hnnnng

Depends on the guitarist man, I've seen people that have played for like 5-8 years and have a solid technique but when they try to play songs like the one you posted it just doesn't flow properly and you can't feel it.

Depends on how much you practice. But I watched a little bit of that and it's pretty typical blues. you can be a DAMN good blues player after like 5 years if you practice a lot and have a little bit of talent.

If you want to be a blues player, practice playing blues. Download some backing tracks and improvise, improvise, improvise.

If you really want to be a good blues player, find blues jams and join them, 6 months of playing live with others can sometimes be worth years of practicing to recordings. Especially if the others are good players.

Difference between a good blues player and a great one
A good blues player makes a mistake and keeps on going
A great blues player repeats it 3 more times........
