Alright Brahs HBO is coming out with the first part of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series which is called "A Game of Thrones" April 17th 2011.
Just want to give you guys a heads up if you want to read the first book before the show premieres. The series is one of, if not the best series I have ever read, yes its fantasy but its not the fireball, fireball, fireball type.
Here is the HBO site http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/index.html
Here is George R.R. Martin's (the author) website http://www.georgerrmartin.com/
Here is some video footage/documentary
Here is what the first book cover looks like if you are curious to pick it up

In.
Any of you who have read the series but have not read Pillars of the Earth, I highly reccommend it.
It is not fantasy but it does contain similarities to ASOIAF, not only the time period but themes of brutality, underhand politics, deception and there not really being any black or white characters...just people acting in their own interest.
Basically the story centres around the building of a Cathedral in a small fictional town. This may sound boring, but the cathedral just acts as an anchor to tie all of the crazy storylines together.

I highly recommend this series because it's such an epic fantasy series. Storm of swords...mindblown every chapter. Best book of all time imo

Thanks OP. I started reading this book because of some random Fantasy book thread on here. I'm about 7/10 of the way through A Clash of Kings.
Armor looks awesome, but I could've sworn Loras Tyrell's armor was had some blue in it? Maybe it wasn't practical.

In. Halfway through the second book and lovin it. What's your favorite arc? For me it's Tyrion's, Arya's adventures are close second.

Yes, and they are really good. I will not say much more because I don't want to ruin anything.
I know, he keeps pushing back the release date and now since he has to deal with HBO I'm sure he has totally got sidetracked. From what I have read though he is writing the next couple books simultaneously so when he releases the next book the others should be near completion too.

the next book is half of a book focusing on characters that were not covered in feast. its been 5+ years. I wrote him after feast asking him to stop writing if the rest of the series was going to be as bad as book 4 because i'd rather it end than go to ****. I fear he took me seriously.

Like he stated on his website, he was originally going to made it a 3 book series but realized while writing there was no way to fit all the info into three books. So now I think he is trying to figure a way to tie it all together and have it not go to ****. Either way 5 years is way too long, regardless though I'm still going to read the next book whenever it's published.
