I go to a university with over 30,000 students and I have never seen anyone dead lift over 405 at the gym.. Been here for 3 years too No one has ever squatted over 315 to parallel either

not to say that no one could.. there are some big ass dudes who just don't do those lifts
    Weighted pullups = 195 lbs x1
    Weighted dips = 225 lbs x2
    Squat = 405 x2

rounding your upper back is generally okay. a lot of big dead lifters do it. konstantinov for example.

rounding the lower back is NOT okay.

the rest of your post is accurate, though.

    thats what I meant, sorry

I was actually about to use konstantin as an example. His form is generally seen as "bad" but its how his body is built. Contrary to what broscientists say, you dont have to lift a certain way to not injure yourself. If you get the weight up without doing stupid sh** like hitching, then its a legit lift.

At the same time I see skinny-ish guys with 300 benches and 300-400 squats too. Hell, most NBA players would probably fall into that category (the squat part). If you're looking for a single lift that would indicate degrees of swoleness you actually probably want one that uses as few muscles as possible. Ironically, barbell curls might be a good one... I've yet to see a guy curl 155+ who wasn't swole as fuk.

(I can deadlift 375-405, but can only curl 100s. And I'm a skinny ******* so... that lends support to my theory.)

Im liking the rack pulls idea.

Doing it in the rack definetly changes the lift and i can see it developing the lower/middle back a lot more.

I've seen more skinny guys (especially manlets) with decent bench presses (ex 315ish) then skinny guys with big deadlift numbers.

a agree with deads being a fairly quick lift to progress on

    last week i did
    225 x 10
couple months ago i was at
    205 x 5
    Have also done 315

    noone goes from a 205 x 5 bench to 225 x 10 in a couple months....

but deadlifts is all about doing the lift incredibily fast...

    as stated previously:

deadlifts = forearms, lower back, legs, hips

i find rows to be a better back exercise. when i first started deadlifting i got noob gains though in my lats

Hurt my back doing 565 during a state meet in high school and yes good form was used. Never looked back on them.

I have developed a awesome back without deadlifts. They do not even work a good portion of the lats and is more a lower back /trap movement. Ill just stick to lat exersises and shrugs and keep my spine discs from shredding again.

Same-ish. I've got some serious problems in my lower lumbar right now. Haven't done dead lifts in at least 6 months and still have a fuking canyon in my lower back.

I've yet to see a guy curl 155+ who wasn't swole as fuk.

(I can deadlift 375-405, but can only curl 100s. And I'm a skinny ******* so... that lends support to my theory.)
if you curl 100s and you're still a skinny ******* you're obviously not lifting correctly

I always thought of dead lift as the most basic show of strength and hence the mentality stuck.

Beats the f*ck outa me why it's a staple in any work out, it's like a squat with lower back added and hella more dangerous.

it's relative. if you weigh 120lbs and stand 6'7" .. 3-4 plates is pretty good

if you weight 120lbs and stand 3'4" then you should be doing like 5 plates

ITT: people think adding a plate to their very first 1RM will automatically build them a huge back. not to mention most people who think deadlifts don't use and build a ton of your muscles probably have horrible form.

stopped reading there. If you're deadlifting a LOT of weight (500-600+), you're not skinny as a rail. Not happening.

ITT OP doesn't deadlift and wants the misc to help him justify his decision.......he insults everyone who disagrees and writes "exactly!!!!!" after every post that supports his decision. Nobody cares what you do and 7 plates on each side of a bar being lifted is quite "impressive" whether you like it or not. Good luck with your fitness goals......
