Late to the crew but am glad I found this, a new member from UK.
I started training in 2009 at the start of university as, like all of you, have been forever the skinny one, 6"2 and about 66kg (145lbs), all the guys in my class was bigger than me, all of them.
Anyway, I started enjoying gym and the weightlifting. I had a friend to go with and I was getting stronger and lifting higher weights, only I didn't seem to see any change. My friend on the other hand seemed to lift a dumbell and the next day have biceps bulging out of his shirt. I spent a whole summer training hard, hoping to have some change for the next semester. I knew I was lifting more than my friend and I could feel that I was stronger, I felt more confident in myself for once as well.
I returned to the first day of semester and literally the first thing I heard from all the girls in the class was how big my friends arms were, they were gawping at him (he had only done bicep and tricep exercises over the summer) but yes his arms were massive and sleeves stretching. Needless to say I was so distraught and dejected that I had trained so much harder yet got no recognition for it at all, I was bigger but clearly not nearly as big a transformation as my friend. Unfortunately, and wrongly, that day made me quit the gym altogether and I did zero exercise for over a year after that, confidence low, motivation zero, hard work felt like it was for nothing.
But, now I'm ready to give it another go and this time stick with it to finally not be the "skinny guy" amongst my friends. I'm starting pretty much from scratch using very light weights, but at least that means the only way is up!
Good luck to you all and I hope to hear some of your tips that have helped you.

Man you went up 10 pounds in 2 weeks, and you got more reps than ever to top it off. That's more progress than any hardgainer can wish for.
Keep going man, you've only been in for 2 weeks. I've always been boxing too myself, I love doing a bit of boxing after a workout sessions when I had my own home gym. You're going to make gains, but make sure you're eating well, and you're committed.
Keep us updated man. Keep it up.

Has anyone else suffered a lower back injury before? I've had this problem for a while, the pain is down the left side of my lower back, it usually flares up if I'm doing deadlifts or squats (even with strictest of form.) I stretch out my entire body before/after I do any form of exercise and yet still it bugs me! I was decorating my place over the weekend and the pain came back, making my legs feel numb too. I'm booked in to see my doctor tomorrow, I really don't know what it is..

Checking in at around 175lbs, Thought id give alittle update
Looking back where I started after hearing some bad news... The last time I remember getting a checkup from the doctors had to be when I was in middle school. Recently decided to finally go to the doctors and get EVERYTHING checked. Glad to see everything came back PERFECT, even after the high amounts of carbs I eat to put on size my sugar levels were spot on and the doctor was shocked after I mentioned how my diet looked like. The ONLY bad news I heard was that I unfortunately have very low TESTOSTERONE levels for a very long time now from what I was gathering from the doctors. I started to think if I could put on 75 lbs to my frame since the age 19 with low test, there isnt any reason i couldn't push any harder....THE STRUGGLE HAS BEEN REAL.... and if I can do it giving my conditions I know anyone else who is as motivated as me could do the same. I should have gotten checked long ago, but it is what it is. Have to meet with doctors to get them back to normal finally. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK FOR IT...
start weight was 100lbs current weight 175.. not stopping til maybe hitting 180 ish but If i jump on trt to have the doctors fix my low test levels I should be able to push further. At the age of 24 years old they normally should be maxed out and slowly declining as the years go on. My level was around 284 which is.......very unbelievable after speaking to my urologist and endocrinologist. They recommended me to jump on asap since this can effect me very negatively going forward. Not really good news but the positive is atleast I didn't let that effect my gains after the years of pushing hard.We Win OR We Learn

Man that's deep but you've still managed to pack on some decent size! You're making me think of going to the doctors for a general check up, it's about time to be honest.
I'm just sitting here going through what I've been doing, the mistakes I've made training that have caused injury, losing faith, getting flu, losing weight and feeling deflated. I've got a goal in mind and I've just got to stick with it. It would help if you guys could follow my bodyspace page and give me some words of encouragement and tips as I go along!

I made some silly mistakes too, but I found that tracking calories is enough. I increase calories to gain, decrease to lose. About 3000 to gain, 2000 to lose. I noticed I always consume 150+ grams of protein and fats and calories are always a good amount as well. Diet is definitely important. Consuming enough calories is one thing that a lot of skinny guys forget about. I lean bulk though, since dirty bulking only lead to me gaining too much fat. I learned that, but good thing is my metabolism is fast so it's easy to lose it.
This link might get deleted by this site, but it has helped me. It's from a site called Muscle And Strength. It's really basic, but that's all you really need to grow.

off season bulk going perfectly. Doing layne nortons PHAT gaining about 1lbs per week and BF% is staying the same. My waist is actually getting smaller so recomp FTW!
currently running 1-xd (DAA test boost) and ArA and its made all the difference. I used to think supplements were pointless, but now I realized the potential of them paired with excellent nutrition and training Regine.Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)
