My legs blow to the max, I never worked them my 1st 3 years of hitting the iron. Now I have to hit them hard to get them to catch my upper body.

Diet is pretty good (variety-wise), quantity has left a lot to be desired...eating 2500-3000 cals a day. should be eating 3000-3500 to really get the gains i want...
i'm a vegetarian which makes my progress that much more exciting and motivating for me.
workout routine is OK...i'm sure it can be improved but I'm VERY new to training...like this is the first time I've ever done it (started about 6 months ago).
Today I did: bench press, shoulder press, flyes, db pullovers and shoulder shrugs.
Next group: bb curls, preacher curls, skull crushers, upright rows and lat pulls.
Next group: squats, deadlifts, toe stands, lunges, forearm curls (palms up & palms down).
Last group: prone bridges, side bridges, curl-ups or crunchies and push-ups.
I used to check out stronglifts once in a while and kinda got the idea to do 5x5 of everything...and i'm pretty much do 5 sets of everything with a minimum of 4 or 5 reps. once i get to 8 reps I add weight. I've gotten noticeable results and all of my lifts are bigger than they were when i started...although I'm sure I could tweak my diet and my routines for even bigger gains...
i'm really excited to be a part of this community. i've always been a skinny guy and i'm tired of it and reading threads on this site really revs up the motivation in my brain and helps me go all out when i train!

A little about me:
I've been pretty tiny my whole life, in the years 2009-2010, my weight has been as low at 105 lbs. I lift here and there back in those years, and was never consistent. My routine of choice was Ripptoes starting strength.
My lifts started pretty weak at about 45 lbs for bench, 95 lbs for squat, and 95 lbs for dead lift back in year 2007. I keep claiming to workout fairly consistent but I've come to realize I am full of ****.
In year 2009, I was diagnosed with Wilson's disease. A copper chelating disease that builds up copper in organs. This mainly builds up in the liver and the brain. My brain was fine, so no signs of Parkinson's developing at an early age of 19 years old. I continue to run blood tests, do CT scans, MRIs, more ultrasounds then a pregnant women gets. It wasn't until my doctors got too confused and had to do a liver biopsy.
This is when I was finally diagnosed with Wilson's. This disease has been a big PIA since the medications I have to take are quite a hassle, but there worst people out there so I try not to complain. I was about 110lbs at this point when I began taking penacillamine for my disease. The side-effects were quite terrible, my taste went away, everything tasted as though my tongue was numb. My appetite dwindled hardcore, an eg. I would eat half a burger and I would not be able to stomach anything for the rest of my day. Within a week, I lost 15 lbs, of course not all of this was true mass.
Now I use a new drug that has to be refrigerated, and affects my eating schedule greatly. I have to take this med twice a day, and when I take it, I have to wait a minimum of 1 hour before I can eat any food (breakfast was the most difficult to deal with. 8am class means I would have to wake up around 6am just to eat). Also if I had anything to eat, I would have to wait a minimum of 2 hours before I can take my meds again. I eventually got used to this.
Fast forward to January 2011, my first girlfriend ever, breaks up with me, shortly after having our 2 year Anniversary in December and spending a wonderful NYE together. Life was tough, as it is with any break up. I knew that I didn't want to be like many of my other guy friends that cracked and turned emo for the next following couple of years.
I took this as a sign to focus all my sadness, rage, and other mixed emotions into something productive in life. I finally began to really start lifting. I go to the gym MWF, and I did 5x5 strong lifts. After about 3 weeks, this was the first time I really enjoyed going to gym, and I looked forward to it! In January, my starting weight was about 110-115 lbs depending on time of day I measured weight.
At this point my lifts were, 95lbs bench, 155 lbs squat, 185 lbs dead lift. I continued with 5x5 up until mid February, then I inquired my best friend for advice. My best friend competes provincially and is training to compete nationally in Power Lifting, so I greatly respect his advice.
He suggested I drop 5x5, as it is quite difficult to keep squatting 3 times a week along with alternating weeks that also have 2 dead lift days. I totally agreed, as this was beginning to be quite taxing on my back. Now my routine as is,
Monday - Squat and Bench with 4 accessory exercises
Wednesday - Squat with 6 accessory exercises
Friday - Dead lift and Bench with 4 accessory exercises
The accessory are to specifically target weaknesses. The usual exercises I do are, hamstring extensions for squat and dead lift help. Close grip bench for triceps specifically to aid in bench. Leg press for quad focus on squat. I also do lots of latissimus dorsi work, and upper back with pull ups to aid in a good base for bench.
Present day, I am 125-130 lbs and very happy. My lifts as of this week are, 130 lbs bench (so close to a plate!!!), 200 lbs squat, and a 255 lbs dead lift. These are all for 5 reps might I add, as I have not attempted for 1RM.
My goals are not to lift for aesthetic reasons, but for personal goals of lifting as much weight as possible Pound4Pound.
I hope to hear motivational stories from the rest of you as well!Last edited by E_Weazy; 04-24-2011 at 02:07 AM. Reason: added story
