Just checking back in here, started my 'journey' February 12 at 73kg, my goal being 80kg. In uh, April 12.
So I missed that by a wide margin, as per usual starting a new job fcked me up and ruined the gym schedule I had. I've gotten back to lifting recently and am happy to say I'm jus starting to surpass my previous best weights for lifting. It's a great feeling knowing I'm stronger than I've ever been before, literally.
On the other hand I've only put on 1.5 kg in the last year so I've gotta work on that. I've also started a kung fu class for flexibility and self defence; all in all feeling great about myself right now, as long as I can maintain this training schedule and get enough food into me, I should start making savage gains.
Funny enough the food could be the actual problem. The flipside of having all this time for training is I've got no job and fck all money. I calculated my macrnutrient needs from the sticky over in nutrition (my previous nutrient plan consisted of basically, eat lots til i felt like I was getting fat, or, eat nothing at all if I didn't feel like it, retarded I know.). Now i know I need almost 3300 calories daily, and I was rarely getting anywhere near it before.
It's catch 22, no job and time to train and go to classes but no money for them, or job and can buy all the lovely foods and classes I want but no time for gym or proper schedule.
Now to work out if its worth it to drop 20 or maybe even 40 bucks on one or two tubs of half price protein, or just buy more food with it over the next few weeks.... eh #firstworldproblems I guess but still.

theres no such think as over training. only under eating. check out the sets, chest = 9 sets per week, quads = 6 sets, back = 8 sets, hamstrings = 6
you could drop the direct arm work if you felt like they were getting over worked. i used this routine to gain 20lbs of muscle memory in about 4 months no fat with about 3k-3500 calories a day and a cheat meal 1-2x per week.
starting strength sucks, its honestly the worst thing you can do if you want to build muscle. there is absolutely NO mmc involved in linnear progressive overload. then you get kids who developed good legs and lower back mass yet have no delts, chest or traps.

Never said anything about overtraining...
SS is an program designed to introduce lifting, not just strength aspects.
How are you going to "bodybuild" if you have no body to build upon and with no strength foundation. SS builds a total foundation, desperately needed for us skinnies.
And LOL at your 20lbs muscle with no fat in 4 months.
First off, 20lbs of muscle in 4 months is impossible, even as a beginner. Its not humanly possible, so get that BS out of here.
Secondly, you realize to build muscle you need to be in a caloric-surplus? Oh guess what, youre going to put on fat if you ever want to build muscle.

1) ok so why not introduce every aspect of body building?
2) then why not build a foundation that can be used later? why start with a foundation of 3 exercises?
3) not LOL actually, its called muscle memory. and yes i was in a huge caloric surplus. in fact at the end of my 20lb bulk i looked even leaner from the muscle i gained. its not impossible at all. any beginner can do it easily. the problem is that they have no clue how to diet or train so NOBOY ever ends up being able to do it.
I was considered a beginner when i started training again, but i had good nutrition and i knew how to train and used a great full body routine that allowed for maximum muscle growth in a very short amount of time. from 50lb dbells on bench x 8 to 85s x 10

Have you actually pulled the meat off of the bone and measured it? Its not as much as you think.
I've personally never counted calories, just always measured my food by oz's, and made the calculations that way.
I used to think bone in was the way to go, but then realized the amount of meat you get vs. boneless is FAR less than what you actually think. Regardless of cals.
If you're looking for extra fat, you'd be better off doing natty pb after each meal, or incorporating EVO in to your shakes.

no but honestly who cares? its chicken on the bone. pure meat. you cant argue that they wouldnt support muscle growth. thats down to an evolutionary standpoint where our bodies were conditioned a long time ago as a source to build adequate muscle and survive.
i mainly eat steak and chicken breasts, with some bone in chicken a few times a week. i do also eat peanut butter regularly, but thanks for the concernCertified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)

Been dirty bulking like a mofo on pizza, pizza, pizza, whole milk, pot pies, and more pizza. :/ Going to start reigning things in, but I'm so close to hitting weights I've never hit before, I just wanna break through! Was 191 last friday at the gym, a substantial amount of that is water (creatine, all the sodium, etc.) but thats the most (i'm aware) I've ever weighed, wooho! No longer fit in my 32's either... but that may be a bad thing.

AHHHHH WHITEY IS BACK!!! Awesome, Glad to see you are still here. Finally came back to jot down my progress for my 7 month journey :d
Nice bulk bro keep up the work.
As for 20 lbs of muscle put on in 4 months ....not possible i think you mean you gained 20 lbs of body weight. Sometimes people get confused between the two.
Anyway, you are doing something right. Props.

Hes 143 pounds. Maintaining is not something he would want to do.
And he should already be "lean" bulking, which is a term that makes no sense. Wtf is lean bulking. Bulking is bulking, just depends on the number or surplus calories.
Does 0-500 mean lean and 501+ mean dirty? No, those terms are stupid.▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #70 ▪██─────██▪

Week 1 is knocked out, Was a pretty good week for me. Was pretty excited getting back into the gym and eating right.
This hurricane sandy won't mess up my routine hah going to weigh myself at the end of the week. Looking to hit 2.5lbs for the first 2 weeks or so. Don't want to jump more than 5 lbs per month. My legs we soooo dead, made sure to stretch throughout the week. Eating roughly 6 times a day, working out 4 times a week. Not sure If I should do progress pictures every 2 weeks for my journey or every month...
Hope everyone is keeping at it! LOOK UP...GET UP...AND DON'T EVER GIVE UPWe Win OR We Learn

at 135 you will definitely have suceess on that 2.5lbs for the first few weeks. take advantage of thoes noob gains! Oh and once a month is good. Looking too closely at pics will deter you from sticking to your bulking but if you just keep at it your body will get used to the food in the long run!
dedication is low for me right now..... was making absolute crazy gains for a solid 4 weeks (up to 183) then got strep throat which set me back a day or two because i got on anti-biotics quick. But then 2 days later i get a fukkin virus. FMl back down to sub 170.
i will always be fighting the true skinny in me. my metabolism will just not give inCertified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)

Psh 9lbs isn't bad at all bro! Glad you decided to get back at it. Maybe we can have a competition motivational purposes
going to try and revamp the thread, we took it along way. Going to try and contact the members of the group who are still active to post and share.
Yup yup, should be easy to get back to 170, lost 30 fast should come back easy. Once a month sounds about right though.
I always hate when I get sick (rarely happens) all your gains are affected and sets you back for awhile. I normally don't get sick, I take vitamins & minerals would say I have a strong immune system. Do you take vitamin c?? Could help.
Proud you are putting up a fight though, just look at where you started....big difference. I have to get my molars pulled....thats going to really suck, most likely have to move to a liquid diet til I'm able to eat whole foods. Kinda pushing it off, but the longer I wait the worse it will get.
*side note i wish there were some transformation contests going on right about now *Last edited by redmond3; 10-29-2012 at 06:01 PM.

Well i figured id join in on this thread. I figure ive been at about 145 lbs for my entire adult life. I joined the site about 6 years ago or so and in that time i made a few attepts at training with the intent of bulking but for whatever reasons life threw at me i didnt manage to keep a routine going for more than a couple months those atempts i managed to hit 156-158 but i always ended up loosing everything eventually. Right now im more motivated than ever. A physical change is only one of the positive changes i am trying to make in my life right now. Im 8 weeks into my bulk currently and i started at only 138lbs and now im sitting at 159-160 lbs my highest weight ever. yes that seems alot in a short time but i figure i was probably quite dehydrated when i started so its a mix of fat, water weight and muscle in that 20lb i probably went from 10-12%bf to 12-14% bf. My diet is good and ive been hittin my macros every day. If i start to see to much fat gain i will check my diet and gear it to a more slower clean bulk. My goal right now is to be about 175lbs and 8-10%bf 7 months from now but that could change

Thats awesome, I am the same as you, always was around the 140-145 range and I just said F*ck it and went for it. When I saw 160 on the scale (which was the most ive weighed as well) it just gave me inspiration and I realized it is possible. So just keep it up, keep eating and training, it will all be worth it in the end. My goal is around the same as yours as well, we will have to help motivate and track each others progess. Keep up the good work!
