Hey man, I don't know about you, but it's a pretty damn big deal to me, and if you find it "pathetic" than you shouldn't be in this thread, cus it's a journey for a lot of people which includes ups and downs. I don't have another $200 + 50 a month to spend on gym fees all over again after a month when I just paid about $120 for my previous gym.
There's only 2 gyms closer to me and one of em is an XSport and the other is Planet Fitness, which is just machines.
And it bothers me more because I don't know if you read, I have a medical condition that kind of prevents me from making as fast and frequent gains as most people, my body doesn't even absorb nutrients fully so, ya, I can lose it all fast especially if I flare up, as when I lift, I eat more too. When I've worked pretty damn hard to get to even 114, which is the most I've weighed in my life. So, I am going to be freaking out.

Did you get your money back from the closing gym?

No sir, I just got a letter in the mail saying "We're sad to say, we're closing this location, but we've made arrangements for the Planet Fitness near by here, we will waive entry fees but will charge you $10 after per month". I called the day I got the letter and they just said, yeah today's the last day. I don't even know if they're gonna start charging me for PF monthly, I gotta call and see.
Those gyms have no barbells, it's machines, I've seen it. Should I just join it and just **** around with machines? I was doing Jason DBs program.
I've literally just joined this gym late December after I wanted more freedom to workout on my own and not rely on a a buddy's home gym and this happens.

1st thing to do is argue and see if you can get your money back. What was your contract? Dont you pay monthly? or did you pay months in advance?

Stay away from the cardio in my opinion. Itll only slow down weight gain. Calories in vs. Caories out.

It is just to get started after my operation because heavy lifts , ahah I will wait with these a little more
And you need cardio, no matter what everybody says, it is healthy and I dont think it is bad in any way
the calories you burn extra , you can eat them again when you know how much these are
And it makes me feel good and it worked well

If it were so easy to just eat more food i would be 200lbs by now.
But to each his own, who am i to stop you from achieving your goals. Good luck!

Yeah Brah everybody his own ideas but I just prefer doing a bit of cardio in between even when i am bulking
and eating never was a problem to me trust me I am used to being hungry 24 / 7
I know that maybe it'll be easier to gain weight without cardio session, but I am not doing these extensively
aaaand I am gaining muscle and less fat, at least in my mind :P , when doing this =)

Well, there is no money back from what I can tell. I called PF and they said just bring the letter in and they'll give me what I just stated before. There was no contract at this gym, it was month to month $15. I also called xSport, and they are offering a plan for $112 start up and IIRC $39 or 29 a month after.

If it is month to month how much money did you loose? just $15?
If thats the case, finish up the month at planet fitness. They have dumbbells i am sure, you can do everything with dumbbells. Then try and find a different gym. In my opinion, $30 a month is expensive as hell.
Idk if you have a 24 hour fitness around you. But Costco has a 2year $300 pass to 24 hour fitness. Thats around $13 a month.

I signed up on the 21 of December, gym closed down last Wednesday, so I lost about 120ish.
Xsport is 24/7 but I think they're asking 30/40 a month.

Might as well just go to Planet Fitness for those few months if theyre not going to charge you anymore. They have enough equipment to get you started.
Then leave and find a gym for a right price. IMO 20 a month should be max, but thats just me. You can also invest 300-500 dollars and get a squat rack, barbell, and plates from craigslist and have your own gym at home.

Hey guys I'm new here but this thread caught my attention since I'm in the same position as many of you are.
I'm 6 feet 2 inches and only weigh 141 pounds... Needless to say I'm a walking noodle lol. I don't mind being skinny but my ultimate goal is to get ripped (visible abs, toned arms and legs, etc). The only issue is that I have absolutely NO idea where to start. I've never worked out a single time in my life and I have no idea what kind of workouts I should start out doing, how often I should be doing them, and most of all HOW to do them. There's a local gym at my school that I have access to but I'm afraid of walking in there looking completely clueless/out of place. I wish I had someone I could go to the gym with a few times to show me the ropes and build my confidence up so that I can start going on my own.
I keep looking up random workout videos/plans on Youtube and stuff but it's all so confusing/intimidating to me. Any advice for a complete newbie please? I'm pretty desperate here.

I posted in your thread, there is so much you can do with a pair of dumbbells. Go for maxes, go for 5reps, go for 10 reps, go for 20 reps, all with dumbbells.

I know you can do a lot, my point was that it's only 8 and 15 pounders.

Then why do you keep bringing Planet Fitness up? GO TO PLANET FITNESS!!!
In the mean time go and train at a park. Pushups, dips, pullups, chinups, pullup/row where your torso is on parallel to the floor and you emulate a barbell row, lateral raise with the 8/15lb db's you have for shoulders.
Get creative until you find a gym you like!

Cus I haven't found a good Dumbell, program, I've read that if I don't do Squats for JasonDB might as well not do it cus I'm wasting my time and it'll take 5 years to get anywhere.

Then with this phrase alone it seems your only option is to find a gym that has free weights.
PM me your location, and i will google gyms in your area.

Kinda pleased to see a tangible difference between June '12 and Feb '13 pics. I think I see some progress between Nov '12 and Feb '13 as well
I think I am responding better to a higher rep range (10+ reps), lifting in the 5-6 rep range din't do much for me and I ended up packing too much fat. Since June '12 I've packed on some mass without too much of incremental fat gain. Hitting each muscle group 2X a week in the 10-12 rep range is what I am gonna shoot for going forward. I am ok with gaining a steady 1.5-2 lbs a month here on till I get to 180 lbs and do a mini cut
