I tried searching the forum and saw nothing about it... I know 8-10 pounds a month is a good goal for losing weight but how many inches can you realistically lose off your waist in a month?

If you actually are around 250 like your stats say. You can aim for more weight loss than that. For heavier people, you don't need to worry about "maintaining muscle" and all that because your primary goal should be to lose the weight and be done with it.
So, if you actually are 250 at 5'9", I don't see why you couldn't lose 3-4 pounds a week and still be healthy.

Zoid's estimate is probably in the ballpark. I'm down almost 60 pounds since last March, and my pant size has gone from 40 to 30. It does depend a lot on where you store your fat. I've been shooting for a pound lost per week, and every 2-3 months I've had to get smaller pants (and a new belt!).
