Yo braahss.. Check out the latest version of the "Punching in a dream" remix I'm working on. Still got all the fine tunings and mixing to do but I need to acquire a vocalist or an acapella of the song before I do that. Been messaging a few people about it. You guys know any resources to find vocalists? I'm gonna tweet the soundcloud link to the band themselves and see if maybe they'll catch it and throw me a bone..

tell me what you guys think so far. Its a remix of Naked and Famous' punching in a dream

My remake of the 'Big Spender' beat.

Took about 8 hours and I admit I got a little lazy with that 808 transition sound.

Just tried to make a dirty sounding electro beat, pretty basic though and unfinished. Didn't want to put in a ton of time before I knew if I was on the right track or not though, don't really make too much "dirty electro" lol. What do you guys think?

Sup Misc producers...
I've been dabbling around for a while in FL Studio but really haven't taken it very seriously since I've started making stuff. Despite never really taking any formal music classes or education I think my ability to create decent melodies is reasonable (I have a keyboard in my room so end up playing around with it every now and again), however my knowledge of EQ'ing and mastering is pretty minimal and atm I struggle to wrap my head around the use of compressors and limiters and what not.
With that disclaimer aside, can I get some feedback from some Misc brahs on my house track I made a few weeks ago? I'm pretty happy on it but my ear probably isn't too 'musically trained' so if I can get some critique that'd be awesome. Cheers guys

musically its alright to listen to, though the progression reeks of cinema score and not big room house lol. mixdown is just really flat and nothing really has power, and plus you could make way more use of fx & percussion

Thanks man, I really appreciate hearing stuff from people that know a bit. Definitely agree in that my use of percussion is uninspired, I'm pretty awful at making most stuff of my own but I guess that just comes with a bit more practice.
I'm finding it the hardest to take the next step now and actually learning a bit about mixing and mastering without any sort of proper training, suppose it needs quite a lot of time and practice.
Cheers for the feedback.
Edit: ^ fuark, just listened to your remix... it's srsly my dream to be able to make something this good. V. impressed/jelly lolLast edited by LurkingBrah; 06-28-2012 at 08:50 PM.

dat feel when you think you just finished your best remix to date but KNOW you're gonna **** it up during the mixdown/mastering process and it's gonna sound chit.

cool remix dude! Gnarly bassline, maybe even just a hint too much distortion - but nevertheless well done!
I entered the Zedd Remix Contest, here's the YouTube Link and the Beatport Link:

Thanks man! Finally some positive feedback, I already thought it's crap, got a downvote on Reddit immediately and no other comments whatsoever haha Feels good man, cos I think it turned out pretty well too btw I'm gonna vote for your song for sure when the voting starts!
I didn't know you were also into the Electro House/Complextro Style, do you have any other tracks?

Been getting more and more into the idea of toying around with making some music as a hobby. Whats some good gear to pick up to get started. Plenty of disposable income, not too concerned with price but theres obviously no need to go top of the line right off the bat.

Thanks brah, just spent the last 3 hours looking into Ableton, watching tutorials etc. Seems to have a good mix of features and accessibility. Pretty much decided on that + Massive since it seems to be what most of the quality tutorials are geared towards.
Lost on the monitors and Ableton/Massive seems enough for me on the MIDI front without stepping into a keyboard.Starting weight - 220lbs 23/08/09

thanks a lot! I only got negative responses from other places so far
yep, just try and learn, watch a lot of tutorials and of course make a lot of songs, maybe even download Stems for Remix Competitions to see how songs are structured, cos sometimes you don't think about the easiest stuff since you only hear it a little bit in the background etc
Check out tutorials by Sonic Academy, they are superb for beginners in my opinion.

i try to, because if i don't it tends to just not get finished and if i cant write it in a few sittings and finish it it's probably not worth finishing. there are some exceptions to this, as in the case it's definitely your best work yet and you want to sit on it and really flesh it out
