whats wrong with that, would rather do that then work in an office all day (which most people have to do anyways, including you) unless you make bank with your own style and everything. and if you do, congrats, thats great!
but, why not do both? if you have time and patients of course
i agree about hating autotune though

Also, your reasoning doesn't make any sense. Because some people use producers who work with singers who can't really sing, you don't want to make pop music? Where is the logic in that? What does another person's process have to do with your own process?

SMH why not use everything you can?
There's always gonna be people who do, and "purists" who disagree.
And I say "purists" because unless you are actually recording yourself playing, you're basically "cheating".
If I use loops I'm in the wrong, if I sample (which are loops that you find yourself) I'm in the wrong.

When I realized that a few of my favorite songs contained loops I realized:
I'm done caring what people think about my methods so long as the end result sounds good to me.

Of the pro's that use drum loops like Vengeance loop samples, are they generally mixing several different loops, or just playing straight basic drum loops and just focusing on leads/bassline?

oh i wasn't referring to autotuning being my point against not producing pop music. it just disgusts me that THAT was his in the studio video...
go watch the in the studio series with real music producers who sit there and explain the science of how they do things and compare to what this guy is doing.
We're gonna do an uptempo kind of thing so we need a kick for umph umph umph umph!! It gives it that uptempo kind of feel...now we need a clap for the umph CLAP..... *selects random sample and nods* YEAHHHH
....makes me sick that there are guys far more talented making far less money.

I still don't understand why you wouldn't make pop music because of that.

besides, i wasnt trying to debate anything when posting that video. just trying to give you producer brahs some lullz

Do you guys have any tips for someone trying to learn warping? Like I'm trying to do something where I loop maybe one second of the vocals about 10 times before the drop, and I'm guessing you need to warp it so you can speed the tempo up a bit? If I just loop the vocal it is the same speed as the rest of the song and doesn't have the right sound to it.
I basically just play around with Ableton with warping and listen to how f'ed up I can make the song sound lol. I don't really know what I'm doing though, or how to warp something for a specific purpose.

Any of you guys do both EDM and Hip Hop producing? Even though I'm a lot more into EDM at the moment because the hip hop scene is currently dead or almost completely dead, but all my life I've been 50/50.
I haven't even attempted to mix hip hop either, I assumed you really needed to be able to scratch and such for that. Don't think you can beat match Hip Hop like you do with EDM lol, could be wrong though

it's better to make beats using a midi instead of just clicking with a mouse . you can just play what you think and feel into a track. it has a human feel to the song. trying to pick one up tomorrow !

No idea what "warping" is but try out a free VST by the name of Glitch.

be careful here..its better to make beats and melodies using midi, but its best to polish and quantize them immediately after with the mouse. if you don't know what quantization is or why this is necessary, look up latency.

Big time newb here! Made a short Electro beat, only about 60 seconds for now because I'm gonna try to add more onto it! This is probably my second attempt at anything that I put at least some time into, but more of a learning experience than anything! Let me know what you guys think!

As far as creative process goes, do you guys tend to go from raw drum beat to melody or think of the melody and write the beat from there?

Sample the individual drums out of the loop if you can, then you can use those however you want leading into the loop.
As for tambourines look at them basically the same manner as an open hat, use them to accent beats mainly and give the song a little more groove.
For example I hear some songs where they have tambourines on the snares on 4 and 8, just makes the beat seem a little less stiff I guess.

Drums lately.
I've been paying special attention to drums lately trying to build a dope custom kit or two if I can.

Don't worry man drums are crucial and pretty much the first thing you should take care of.
That's why I'm trying to make a few bad ass kits so I can just load them up and play out a beat real quick.
But I really wish I had: A.) A better computer with way less latency, B.) an MPD or something similar (actually considering Maschine) would help me out a lot
The only problem would probably be not giving everything else proper attention as you do your drums.

That looks cool but having a setup with a laptop is one of the most pointless undertakings I hear.
As for controllers I already have a keyboard, but I don't like putting drums in with the keyboard.
With an MPC style controller it's much easier to put things in like drum rolls and more intricate things.
I want Maschine cause that actually interfaces with the computer, plus I've heard nothing but good things.
Will be picking up Maschine and Komplete some time this year as well as a new computer.
