try rendering the synth to audio with no automation, then automating the pitch up with the audio clip. that should work, though it might just be a setting to change or a dif envelope to automate. i forget

If you are just using white noise, pitch bend won't do anything. What I do to make a sweep is automate my eqs. Hold up, ill look for a video
edit* like this video uses a filter
and this uses the eq automation
if you don't have any sound waves then the pitch bends won't do anything because (at least not with my experience). Mixing a sound wave with a white noise I have automated both the pitch bend (or just made a string of notes that trends upward) as well has the eq's on the white noise simultaneously and that has created some cool effects but theres probably a better way to do that.
edit* I just saw that excess pretty much said what I'm talking about right hereLast edited by nodnarb481; 04-18-2012 at 08:49 AM.

still not finished but it's coming along nicely! (thanks to some critiques from excess )
I'm aware the master filter cutoff sort of destroys my build ups, that'll be fixedLast edited by diplodocus; 04-18-2012 at 11:55 AM.

I feel like I started this stuff too late . I am an attorney now and working a ****load, and barely have time to keep up w/ the gym even. I spend like an hour or two each day just messing with Ableton, but I haven't had time to watch tutorials or anything in a long time, and I'm sure that shows with my "songs" lol
This whole thing just started as a personal challenge just to see if I could make something that sounded like the music I love (electro), and I finally got to the point where I can imitate the melodies and even come up with my own melodies that sound decent to my ears, but I can't seem to get past the create a catchy drum beat and melody stage? All my projects are basically just looping basslines/leads that go on for about a minute or two lol

never too late brah. an hour or two a day consistently spent producing will over time pay off, i promise you it's more than enough to learn. one thing you have to keep in mind is that not every project you start will lead to something, and that's not something that you should be discouraged over. for every 1 track i produce that actually makes its way to soundcloud, i have about 20 projects floating about that didn't even amount to that. for every 10-15 tracks i end up uploading to soundcloud, maybe 2 of them will see completion. of those two tracks, maybe one is even worth sending to labels.
once i have a good idea, i can usually run with it and finish it in a few days. but, good ideas are hard to come by and great ideas are even more rare.
i firmly believe that anyone can do this, so long as they're persistentNew Jersey Crew (973)

shes a local who's sung on tracks with some other producers, we just happened to get into making music around the same time she was looking for collaborators. kept in touch and eventually started working on stuff with her. actually had a vocal project lined up a few months ago but that project **** the bed, and when i made the song i've been talking about i just shot it her way immediately and she threw down real quick :P
TL;DR: make personal connections wherever you can and hope the timing is right? lol. or try and find youtube singers with relatively low views and see if you can get them to record on a dece mic or get them into the studio with youNew Jersey Crew (973)

I feel like I always hit a certain point in making these beats, where it seems worth it to just scrap it and start over, rather than finish the beat and make it into an actual song? I probably have like 30-40 beats but they never get finished lol.
This for example, I made right now. I think it's decent, but I don't know if I'm better off trying to finish these things, instead of just scrapping them and trying to come up with better beats before spending a lot of time on one project?
New Electro I made just now to prove a point!

Dear Frederick, thank you for your nice letter, but I am actually a US Marine who was born to kill, whereas clearly you seem to have mistaken me for some sort of wine sipping, communist dick suck. And although peace probably appeals to tree hugging bi-sexuals like you and your parents, I happen to be a death-dealing, blood-crazed warrior who wakes up every day just hoping for the chance to dismember my enemies and defile their civilizations.

structure is WAY better now diplo. may i suggest changing the snare/clap to something more beefy instead of thin like the one you have? might make a lot of difference in the feel of the groove actually. still, way more solid. nicely done!
