In response to the Japanese invasion of China, the United States increased military and financial aid to the Chinese and cut off exports of oil and other raw materials to Japan. This embargo was viewed by the Japanese as a direct threat to their national security and decided to seize and conquer other Asian and Pacific area territories that were rich in oil and the natural resources that Japan did not possess. You guys make it sound like ''herp derp, Japan attacked us for no reason whatsoever!''

If the dropping of nukes isn't a war crime, what is? Was it absolutely necessary? Who knows..

Because killing the same number of people over time with many conventional bombs wouldn't have been as intimidating and the Japanese wouldn't have surrendered. Better to kill 300,000 in two shots than 1,000,000+ over months of continued war. And, needless to say, Japan actually attacked us. It wasn't remotely barbaric in the context of a pre-existing war.

Letucce be reality, rednecks will justify this act and intelligent people wont. Thats the way it is.
which is why you can take a higher, completely unbiased stance and value each human life as equal as to other human life. an intelligent person uses emotional attachment in strategic war decisions and not calculated casualties? give me a fukking break.

i highly doubt anybody could truly fool themselves into thinking that a traditional invasion would've meant less lives lost than dropping the a-bombs.

just listening to americans trying to justify it, it makes me think, what if it was another country that done it? It would probably be remembered as one of the worst things in history, but because America done it it is justified. Or if any other country were to do it now it would be regarded as a crime against humanity (unless it was america, which I'm guessing makes it justified because they are america)

People giving figures out here don't count the kids and all other innocents who were killed with the bombs,

or you know, a little warning note to let them know you weren't fuking around before the bomb actually dropped would have been nice

Mind = blown at how many people base their WW2 history knowledge off of what they saw in Pearl Harbor and Saving Private Ryan.

You can go in circles for days about whether or not it was necessary or not to use atomic weapons, you will never be able to say YES IT WAS NECESSARY or NO IT WAS NECESSARY.

The decision to drop the bomb was both 1) relative 2) based on recent history which both pointed Truman to making the best decision at the time.

Japan was well documented in both their brutal war time tactics and a complete unwillingness to surrender and fight to the last man.

If you were the commander and chief of the US and had a tool at your disposal to end a brutal war in one swoop, then not only is it your duty to your country to strongly consider it, but your duty to every country involved in the war to weigh the options and in this case at the time it made the most sense.

Go fu*k yourself. Most barbaric move carried out in the history of the Earth? That sh*t wasn't even the most barbaric move carried out in that same decade. Japanese war crimes in China, Korea, and the Philippines were miles ahead in terms of savagery.

Japan deserved that sh*t, real talk.

what? your picking non existent holes in my argument. It probably would be remembered as one of the worst things to ever happen

justified to who? americans? I'l bet the japanese didn't think it was justified, or many other countries for that matter. What makes america's opinion more important than anyone elses?

sorry I'm just trying to figure out this sense that a lot of americans have that they are somehow better or more important than everyone else.

as if 9/11 was a tactical, heavily weighed decision made by a world leader to save thousands of lives and not a group of religious fanatics (in before conspiracy theorists..).

Ontop of that the bombs severely damaged the supply lines and infrastructure that was fueling their continued campaign. In case you dont recall, the Japanese used suicide tactics through Kamikazies, Banzi Charges, and mass Suicide. The honor was dying for you country. The Imperial Japanese were not an army that would surrender, they would die fighting or kill them selves. Watch Letter from Iwo Jima and you will get an idea about what they did. Pluse, as said before the casualties from the bombs were peanuts compared to if we invaded the Japanese Islands (both sides taken into account).

And dont argue that by taking innocent lives your immoral. Because the reality was that if the Japanese, the Nazis, The Brits, the Russians, and the US were in development of new technological weaponst that would have greatly turned the tide of the war. The US just demonstrated its new technological advancements. The reality is that if the Japanese could have done what we did to them, they would have.

In desperate times such as WWII, immoral deeds were the only means to prevent immoral deeds.

Not to mention that is showed the power and technology that was coming from War Machine America. Forever did it change war bro.

F*ck cuz, the least the world could have done is either disarm them or nuke the **** out of them in return.

Actually we spent billions reconstructing them and to this day are still there providing their offensive military in the event they ever need one.

the distinction i would make is that nuking japan was part of a calculated effort to end a conflict, 9/11 was more akin to pearl harbor in that it was designed to start a conflict
It is well that war is so terrible — lest we should grow too fond of it.

do you understand english? every post i make you misread it, after 9/11 there was a war in the middle east yeah? and in that war more innocent people lost their lives than any militants. So 9/11 didn't save lives, it got a lot of innocent people killed, by americans
