"Yo, come on, we're Arizona State. They wouldn't give him (President Obama) a degree? Really? I mean, even if they offered him one, he should've been insulted. He'd be like, 'I went to Harvard.' I mean, come on, I barely went to class, and they passed me. It's Arizona [expletive] State!" - Terrell Suggs

ITT miscers value the lives of Japanese people over the lives of the United States military men whos lives were saved.
Reminds me of elementary school when a kid would throw something at another student and when said student would throw it back the teacher would see and go "HEY WTF DONT THROW THINGS DETENTION" and the student would be like "But he threw it first" and the teacher would say "IDGAF THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD THROW IT BACK"

In response to the Japanese invasion of China, the United States increased military and financial aid to the Chinese and cut off exports of oil and other raw materials to Japan. This embargo was viewed by the Japanese as a direct threat to their national security and decided to seize and conquer other Asian and Pacific area territories that were rich in oil and the natural resources that Japan did not possess. You guys make it sound like ''herp derp, Japan attacked us for no reason whatsoever!''
If the dropping of nukes isn't a war crime, what is? Was it absolutely necessary? Who knows..

Because killing the same number of people over time with many conventional bombs wouldn't have been as intimidating and the Japanese wouldn't have surrendered. Better to kill 300,000 in two shots than 1,000,000+ over months of continued war. And, needless to say, Japan actually attacked us. It wasn't remotely barbaric in the context of a pre-existing war.

which is why you can take a higher, completely unbiased stance and value each human life as equal as to other human life. an intelligent person uses emotional attachment in strategic war decisions and not calculated casualties? give me a fukking break.
i highly doubt anybody could truly fool themselves into thinking that a traditional invasion would've meant less lives lost than dropping the a-bombs.

just listening to americans trying to justify it, it makes me think, what if it was another country that done it? It would probably be remembered as one of the worst things in history, but because America done it it is justified. Or if any other country were to do it now it would be regarded as a crime against humanity (unless it was america, which I'm guessing makes it justified because they are america)
People giving figures out here don't count the kids and all other innocents who were killed with the bombs,
or you know, a little warning note to let them know you weren't fuking around before the bomb actually dropped would have been nice"Everybody wanna be a peppercorn, but don't nobody wanna ride a justified pipe" - Ronnie Coleman.

deal with it
it saved the lives of many marines, one of which was my uncle, so fair trade.Disregard Everything, Acquire Aesthetics Crew
Dear Frederick, thank you for your nice letter, but I am actually a US Marine who was born to kill, whereas clearly you seem to have mistaken me for some sort of wine sipping, communist dick suck. And although peace probably appeals to tree hugging bi-sexuals like you and your parents, I happen to be a death-dealing, blood-crazed warrior who wakes up every day just hoping for the chance to dismember my enemies and defile their civilizations.

Mind = blown at how many people base their WW2 history knowledge off of what they saw in Pearl Harbor and Saving Private Ryan.
You can go in circles for days about whether or not it was necessary or not to use atomic weapons, you will never be able to say YES IT WAS NECESSARY or NO IT WAS NECESSARY.
The decision to drop the bomb was both 1) relative 2) based on recent history which both pointed Truman to making the best decision at the time.
Japan was well documented in both their brutal war time tactics and a complete unwillingness to surrender and fight to the last man.
If you were the commander and chief of the US and had a tool at your disposal to end a brutal war in one swoop, then not only is it your duty to your country to strongly consider it, but your duty to every country involved in the war to weigh the options and in this case at the time it made the most sense.

Go fu*k yourself. Most barbaric move carried out in the history of the Earth? That sh*t wasn't even the most barbaric move carried out in that same decade. Japanese war crimes in China, Korea, and the Philippines were miles ahead in terms of savagery.
Japan deserved that sh*t, real talk.Weighted Dip Lover (125 lbs strapped 4X)

what? your picking non existent holes in my argument. It probably would be remembered as one of the worst things to ever happen
justified to who? americans? I'l bet the japanese didn't think it was justified, or many other countries for that matter. What makes america's opinion more important than anyone elses?
sorry I'm just trying to figure out this sense that a lot of americans have that they are somehow better or more important than everyone else."Everybody wanna be a peppercorn, but don't nobody wanna ride a justified pipe" - Ronnie Coleman.
