I don't think Islam lets you pick and choose what parts you follow...

1) "Jihad" as you define as chopping peoples heads off, cannot be carried out in America because America is not an Islamic country. Therefore, Islamic justice cannot be carried out.

2) Trials must first be taken (ie: testing person's mental capacity, reasons for doing crime, etc) inside an Islamic country where Islamic law is the law of the land.

Also, there are two types of Jihad.

One type is the where you are defending Islam (ie: when the prophet pbuh was going back from Medina to Mecca to reclaim the land that was taken from him and his people) or defending against persecution.

The other is a simple word: sacrifice. A father goes (hopefully) everyday to work and comes back with food on the table. A mother cooks, cleans the house, teaches the children, etc (hopefully). A son/daughter will help their parents generously and listen to their every word.

Most jihad falls under the second definition. We all carry out Jihad today. The father goes to work, feeding the family. The mother will take care of household duties. The children will obey their parents.

Jihad has been transformed in the American media like FOX as soley a word that is defined as Holy War.
