Some of you may remember that a while back I entered a 1RM weighted pull up contest in which I placed 2nd. I busted my ass training for that, and I was pretty happy with my entry. The winner was an absolutely AMAZING pull of 2 45s! I was just awestruck!
Today I read an article she is a pro. I feel like that kinda wasn't fair really. And I'm wondering if she has plans to enter the max rep one coming up soon---it's like I fell like I'm gonna lose before I even start so why bother? Then, I feel bad that I feel this way. Like, "It's just a silly contest, Discdoggie. Why are you being such a sore loser? It was an amazing pull and she won fair and square. What's with the crybaby routine?" (I am not actually and literally crying, btw. Figure of speech and all that.)
So, your opinion: Am I being a sore loser-sour grapes-crybaby? Or is it akin to entering a bbing contest and finding out they're letting Jay Cutler or Iris Kyle enter, too?
Again, not taking ANYTHING away from her amazing pull. Just sayin'.

I honestly think you are worrying too much about something that doesn't matter that much.
I'm sure you have bigger problems in your life to focus on than this. If you wanna do it again...go for it...if it motivates you to work harder all the better."Some people are like Slinkies. They're not really good for anything but they sure bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs."

This is true.
I'd like you to expand on what you mean by this. I appreciate and respect your honest opinion. After all, I asked for it, didn't I? It's just that it DID mean a lot. To me. I'm not a bodybuilder, so those contests don't "mean that much" to me. I'd love to enter surfing or snowboarding comps, but I'm not good enough. Feats of strength relative to my bodyweight are what I'm good at. I was in it to win it. I'm highly competitive.
Isn't that like the ugly person saying that it's what inside that counts?
I like this answer.
Your support and encouragement while I was training for that was invaluable, KD.

I learned years ago that you never know who will be in the competition that you enter.
Now that you have found this out.....
There nothing to do except to try your best each and every time you enter any competition.
What happens, happens. The fact of giving your all and trying to win against whoever enters is the self gratification in the end.Every day counts.

I say go for it again and make it a challenge to one-up your personal best by as much as possible. If you can win it, then that's icing on the cake!
I can definitely see the point of view that it's disappointing to lose to a "ringer" of sorts, although unless the competition makes distinctions between Pros vs Joes (or Janes) from the outset then it's fair game IMHO.
Just do your best and try to outdo yourself. I was immensely impressed with your effort the last time around. I thought about entering, but I was going to get my arse kicked in my division. There were some sick pulls in that group . . . and I think there are some guys in there who specialize in the weighted pull-ups, so they have an advantage. But, props to them--in the end it's all about who can pull the most, so if I can't top it then it's on me. I have been slacking a bit on the weighted pull-ups because of some elbow issues that it seems to aggravate if I go really heavy--but I think I'm at the point where I'll start trying to bump it up again.
Good luck with it!!!!!*MFC Elder Statesmen Cabinet Crew*

I would not worry about it DD. In fact, I would not bother at all about who is in the contest. Just do your best. Push yourself past what you did last time.
I am sure you will bring itEric

I say you are putting too much energy towards it. She entered and won. You got second. Be happy and keep working hard. What's that saying..."You get what you get and you don't get upset." And if you don't stop crying about it I'm gonna put you in a timeout!!! Oh, and yes, enter again

Me, I say f'ck no, not a fair level playing field, she is "ON" period. She has an advantage over you and that is just f'cked up. I say if they are going to do a comp, then give everyone a fair chance.
Now I am not one to put down anyone who is using, but you just can't win going up against them unless you are on yourself then it is all fair play from there and let the better man/woman win.
But when 1 is on and the other is not, not a fair game, not in my eyes.On the list for Bannukah

You can go through all of the legalistic mumbo-jumbo you want, and you can analyze it a hundred different ways, but the fact remains that even though she won, your second place stands far above her first place. She has nothing higher to reach for, while you stand on the edge of being a giant killer- David to Goliath, tortoise to hare in a manner of speaking.

JMHO - I think you have a right to be surprised that a Pro won the event. I don't think it's right to think that it was unfair. It's a contest, with entry rules. As long as they were met, it would be fair game to all contestants. You're doing great work, let the disappointment with this event drive you to even better results in the future. Maybe, one day, the tide will be turned.
Be well and breathe deep.

When I train in weightlifting, mountain biking, running and etc. I try to train with those who are better than me. This gives me the drive to train harder and achieve more, use this to your advantage.
Think about it you came second to a PRO!
If I could train mountain biking with Lance Armstrong (yes he mtn bikes competitively) I would be all over it because I know for a fact it will make me better.Instagram= lighteyedhapa
