Im currently lifting with a 3 x 8 set/rep routine. Just wondering If this is the best for overall size gains while bulking.
Cheers.

This, but for hypertrophy you may respond differently. Some people respond well to a slightly higher or lower rep range. But for strength, it seems like 4-6 is always optimal for strength no matter what.
For myself, I found 3-5 works well for compounds, and 5-8 on isolationBeginners, read:

Yup, I think people worry too much about the small, not so important things and completely miss the big important things.
You can gain size doing lots of max effort singles too ( but that can also really tax the CNS, thats the reason why people vary rep ranges ).

There is no magic routine, its all trial and error.. see what works best for you. I have had my best results with 4 sets of 6-8. gained size and strength but this isnt a cookie cutter way to train. Try one way for a month or two and chech results, then try another. in time you will know exactly what works best for you.

Ive always done something simliar.
Big Compound Movements - 4-5 sets 6x8-10 (if i can make it to 10, time to move up in weight)
Small Isolation Movements - 2-3 sets 8x10-12 (if i can make it to 12, time to move up in weight)
I know that doesnt really help you. As a general rule..
1-5 strengh
6-12 size
12-15 endurance
Thats what Ive always went by.▪█───────█▪
