If you want to get fit, healty, or improve your cardio-vascular system for sports, do sprints and high intensity interval training. Not only you will lose weight, but you'll be more fit than many long distance runners or marathoners.

By cardio, I'm refering to strictly aerobic exercices (low intensity, long duration).
I think that this is useless and should be replaced by a shorter session of combined aerobic/anaerobic exercices.
