Is a powerclean essentially an explosive deadlift?

Up until the bar comes up to the shoulders it seems to be the exact same movement. Is this true or are there some differences making it work different muscles?
    Disregard everything, acquire freedom.

Well its a little bit of a deadlift at the beginning though the style of pulling there is not quite the same that you'd use on a conventional deadlift. In fact if you do the first pull of the power clean (the deadlift part) too fast/"explosively", it can mess up your second part. The deadlift part in the clean is just a set up for your second pull/upward explosion.
    Strength + Speed = Power

If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?
