Would this handle be viable for t-bar rows at home

I have been deciding on which handle to get for t-bar rows (old school style like ronnie coleman with the unloaded barbell end in a corner and the other end of the barbell stacked with weight).

My options are the usual seated row handle or this

I was wondering if this handle is viable for doing t bar rows? Or will it slip down the bar?

Both are fine. Most people use the second pictured, however in one of his DVD's Jay Cutler used the first one pictured and it worked just fine.

Thanks for the replies trevy and smokeater....so should I go with the one pictured? That picture of arnold using the one trevy posted looks mighty tempting, almost as though it is superior because Ahhrnold is using it!

Yes, both parallel grip bars work fine, but the second one doesn't move/wiggle as much on the bar. You could actually assemble a homemade parallel grip pull bar with no welding required.

the way I see it the one in the pic of Arnold looks more like this

which ever one you should get will depend on which grip you prefer when doing rowing motions. I prefer a hammer (parallel) grip.

The only difference I can see to the pic in my original post is that it will feel more stable on the barbell due to having two contact points, whereas the other two bars only have one.

heck, sometimes I use a regular straight cable-curl bar with a length of chain wrapped around the barbell and it works just fine.

Thats cause in that scene from Pumping Iron (where that shot is taken from, I believe) he's actually using a "T-bar" machien. I don't believe he was using a lifting bar stuffed in a corner. I could be wrong cause it's been about 10 years since I've watched the movie.

This...handles are nice, but not necessary.

Oh and OP, I've been meaning to ask you this....how come you act like a pretty good guy over here and a complete idiot over in the Powerlifting/Strongman section?
Seriously....you running split personalities on BB.com or something?
Serious question cause I've come close to negging you for some of the BS you cause over there but have been on recharge both times.

hey bro, good observation, actually if you go FAR back to my posts since I joined I really tried my very best in the PL/strongman section (where my interest lies), and I was giving a lot, even till recently I wrote an article for the injury prevention section but no-one seemed to give a shi* and then I actually tried making friends posting pics of my meals and giving advice on my cut......a neg train followed. Go figure.

This section is the only section I like due to people like wildtim and essexlad who are genuinely helpful.

hey wildtim, why do you say that? I have considered doing it that way but tbh it seems like it would put uneven pressure/tension' on the left and right sides of the upper back respectively....causing bad symmetry?

Well, not trying to derail your thread for a episode of Dr. Phil here....but honestly, if that's where your interest is, I wouldn't just continue to burn bridges and piss everyone off over there. I'd just roll with it and post like you do over here. I would think eventually you may gain some credibility. Honestly, I've been anticipating seeing you banned from some of your crap over there.
Like I said, you seem like a decent poster over here but the stuff from over there makes me kind of shy away from your post, honestly.

Anyways....wasn't trying to side track your thread but was curious what the deal was...
    take care.

Oh, and any of those handles on a barbell stuffed in a corner should work just fine. I would look for one that you're comfortable with. Honestly, I just use an old thick towel for my "T-bar" rows....for the extra grip work.

I just got one of these and it works great. It slides over the sleeve and then you load the plates on after.

This might be a problem, log term, but can be avoided simply by alternating which hand is closer to the plates, set by set.

wtf I never even thought of that. An old towel will do for now!!! (I am on a budget) but also the lat bar Jumbo just posted looks freakin out of this world. Jimbo how are the grip variations on it? Do you find it budges at all when in use? What is the weight limit on the bar?

cgc - I am going to take what you have said on board, and will definitly try and be a more fruitful and optimistic person on those areas of the boards.

Exactly. Whatever you do keep your elbows in and actually work your back. I've seen guys using a t-bar row to get a great arm workout but if any of their back muscles get worked I'd be surprised.

cgc - I am going to take what you have said on board, and will definitly try and be a more fruitful and optimistic person on those areas of the boards.

Well I literally just received it this weekend and have only used it once. You really only have two grip options, over or under. As far as weight capacity I don't know, but I am sure it is more than enough. Body Solid does not make crap, so I am confident enough in it's strength. It has a screw on it so you can tighten it to the bar and it stays in place.

Does the center of the bar have the ability to spin freely around the bar it's attached to? Like if you wanted to do swings with it on a "landmine" type setup?

can you expand what you mean by this? I assume you are referring to a elbows flaring type of movement, but I am under the impression that this hits more teres major/minor, rhomboids and upper back.

Yeah if it's not tightened down it will spin freely on the bar, so I think it would work for landmine swings. I'm not real familiar with landmine stuff though so I don't know how practical it would be.
