Unlike the previous jailbreak method, this allows anyone to run homebrew on any PS3, without hardware or software modifcation.

Just to get a picture of how serious this is, no console, ever, has had its private key cracked. This allows you to run any program or app on any PS3, without modifying the software or firmware. The only way to run homebrew on your 360 (and previously on the PS3) is to modify the firmware or software in some way.

The key allows anyone to run any app/game as an official and licensed program. What's worse (for Sony, at least) is it cannot be fixed. If they replaced the hardware, it would make all old PS3s unusable with new games.


This means the PS3 has become a pirate's dream console, overnight. All games can be decrypted and resigned, meaning you can run pirated games on any PS3 console, straight out of the box. Remember, it cannot be fixed.

Sony intends to use similar means of CD key confirmation like PC games for future PS3 releases to combat this- However all old games will remain compromised.

Edit: Well, I have heard a few people say it is possible for you to lose your PSN account, if I hear anything confirming or denying this I will post.

PCs have used online activated keys for years to no avail so now I think with this console being hacked the PS3 will go down the same unending road.

the harm done is really quite minimal IMO. homebrew is back and that's whats important. maybe someone will finally whip up divx support for the ps3 media streaming.

When you do this jailbreaking method, your mac address changes, and to my knowing you can not change it back.

PS can see when your mac address changes, and can do something to your system from their computers. This might have changed with this new method though.

Hacking game console= downloading game files to an external hard drive, plugging it into your ps3, and playing said games for free like normal games, with no difference from if you had purchased. Homebrew is what people make to run on their systems.

Also i don' thave to patch ****? just jailbreak it, then copy game to flash drive, insert and play like on xbox?

Can i just FTP game to PS3 harddrive and play, no more patching?

I mean its one thing to hack and do whatever you want to your own bought console, but when you release the tools for everyone to use to hack/pirate, you can't step out of the bullseye and say "not my fault".

well, imo, buying a console means you should be able to do whatever you want with it. i'm mainly interested in this due to the apps that will be released, i could care less about a game i could rent via gamefly. apparently backed up copies perform better than the discs anyways.

I'm using Kmeaw's CFW, I just went from 3.50 straight to it.

if you are on 3.55 then you have to load the update via recovery menu
