First off: determine if the undertaking is feasible. Don't spend a lot of time and money on something that can't happen. If you can't get a location and a ****load of people, then be upfront about that and call it off.

    What you need:
    - a location large enough for both the meet and warmups. If the meet is in a gym, then that's great. Depending on the number of lifters these areas can be one and the same.
    - seats for spectators (although this is minor for PL, unfortunately)
    - a score board of some sort. Overhead projector, beamer, blackboard, that sort of thing
    - a good bar and somewhat acceptable plates
    - a solid bench, stands, and platform
    - mostly a lot of people. A scorer, an MC, spotters & loaders, a ref. They need to be reliable. I've seen loaders quit after 1 flight of squats because their back hurt. Can't have that.
    - weight classes: if you're not going for official classes, then select the weights so that you end up with about the same number of people in each weight class. That makes for more interesting competition. Or score by formula.

    Another thought:

It sucks, but sometimes you need to eliminate the squat. Non-powerlifters will absolutely have issues with depth, and it's the hardest of the three to get equipment for and perform and spot safely.
If it gets really bad, go bench-only. Everyone can bench, and everyone wants to see if they can bench more than the next guy.

I ran meets in college, and we started out bench-only, moved to push-pull, and now they're putting on full meets. Just took a while for things to catch on.

Its a US Navy bas in Naples Italy, Im sure I can get atleast 3-5 contestants in each weight class. Spotters and loaders wont be a problem and our base Gym has 2 benches and a squat rack. So equipment wont be a problem either. I was thinking that I should do a combined lbs total winner and then have winners in each particular excercise. My main concern is weight classes and how to judge squats, deads and bench. I know keep your butt on the bench but is there anything else to check?

Make sure nobody but the lifter touches the bar from the handoff until the lift is complete. Make sure lockouts are even. If the bar starts coming back down, it's a no-lift in most feds. Even if they make the lift by themselves.

yes thanks, after thinking it over i think I am going to go with just a bench press compitition. lately ive been watching guys squat and either the dont break, or the go 2 low. so its not fair to the guys that squat in the hole.. deadlifts on the other hand if u pull and lock out you pull and lock out.. no grips though

Why not have bench only and push/pull?
