Can't decide if I shoudl body build or power lift..

I don't want to disrespect anyone but I do not regard bb as a sport. I would however regard it as an art if you wanted to make the argument that it is. I want to look good but at the same time I want get strong as fuk! and maybe even compete in some pl competitions. I do want to look really good but I don't know if I can achieve that just through pl. Maybe I could make a program that combines pl and bb. Anyone have any suggestions or opinions?

I don't think I want to go over 200lbs. 180-190 is good for me.

Well you could always compromise and eat like a Bodybuilder and lift like a Powerlifter.

I can tell you I have leaned more towards the Powerlifting side and it was the best decision I have made in my life. It is officially my favorite sport. I have competed in 5 competitions and I have done quite well. I have gone to state twice, and I have was short 15 lbs of competing at the National level.

Powerlifting is great because you can see the massive strength gains but at the same time you will get bigger. It is impossible to gain strength and not gain mass.

Bodybuilding is great as well because, in general you will be overall more healthy than the average Powerlifter. Powerlifters are not known for the perfect and balanced diets.

So really what I am saying is either path you pick, in the long run you will get healthier, stronger and bigger and in the end isn't that what it's all about?

So like I said, it may not be a bad idea to eat like a Bodybuilder and lift like a Powerlifter.

You could start out as a bodybuilder to get stronger and if you decide that you wanna be a powerlifter then start training as one.

btw i dont consider bodybuilding a sport either. i dont consider powerlifting one either tho. to me they are competitions.

the way i see it a sport is when you have two opposing forces (offense and defense) and your defense has the ability to effect the opposing teams offense.

a competition on the other hand is when you do your best and see how it compares to everyone elses best. you have no influence on the other person's best attemp

I think your decision really boils down to whether or not you want to compete in powerlifting. Because if you just want to look good and get stronger, bodybuilding will absolutely do both of those for you.
Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

Performance and performance alone dictates the predator in any food chain.

    Why do either?

You want to train to be stronger while still training to look good. So do that.

Why does it have to be one or the other?

So many people tell me that you can't do both. I assume powerlifters have very good diets because I know when I eat very clean and get all my macros and lots of micros that I am a lot stronger. I got really fat and I want to be a police officer so I decided to hit the gym. I am almost where I want to be, I still have somewhat of a beer gut though but I have a little less than 2 months to cut the remaining fat and then I'm going hard on a bulk. That is why I'm trying to decide right now where to take it. I want to get really strong because I really enjoy powerlifting routines but I want a real nice body. If it is diet that power lifters lack than I will have no problem. Maybe I could splice a power lifting routine with a body building routine.

You need to get in your head that you go to the gym to get strong, and what you do at the dinner table determines your body composition

alot of powerlifters dont care about getting fat as it increases their squat and they are not competing as BBers

I respect where you're coming from, but isn't a sport where people compete against each other physically to see who is best at a certain event, motocross is something i have raced for 7 years and it is a very demanding sport, yet has no offense or deffense really. Just somehting to think about.

My diet is very clean and I love eating healthy. I don't think people realize that eating healthy doesn't have to taste bad. I do love the occasional pizza but I get the cravings when i'm cutting. When I'm bulking I'm eating lots of delicious food. It's just how you cook it and what you cook with.
