I haven't seen an RC injury created via preacher curls before, but I suppose anything's possible. if it's still hurting and your mobility hasn't impoved by tuesday, have it checked out and confirmed it's a RC injury.
in the meantime, try icing it regularly______________________

No one here is going to be able to give you a green light. Aches and pains sometimes go along with the business. In my experience, most of these resolve on their own with anti-inflammatories, ice, good stretching, and time. If I'm pain free, and remain pain free through my stretch and warm up, then I generally don't worry about things too much, though if it's been particularly uncomfortable and have taken more than one cycle off I will ramp back into routine rather than just hit it @ 100% that day. Make sure you aren't doing a big lean and jerk back using your legs & back on the preacher bench. Even if your static positioning looks okay dynamic forces not necessary for the exercise can put undue strain on joints...

btw, rotator cuffs are muscles. You should take an hour or two to learn shoulder anatomy and dynamics. It's an amazing joint with a large number of structures. It'll make you a better, safer lifter.Last edited by mslman71; 01-23-2011 at 03:01 PM.

The simple answer is yes you can work out - to a degree. Via an MRI I was diagnosed with a 40-60% tear in my rotator cuff. Had I elected surgery I would have not been able to lift for 6-9 months as it would have most likely required "total reattachment surgery". My surgeon however told me that it could quite possibly heal on its own over time (a year or more). I told him that I would try the healing route as the worst case scenario would be a complete tear and total reattachment surgery - which was where I was already heading. He told me I could lift as long as the lifting did not cause pain. Initially that made my workouts very limited. I have steadily improved and ater 4 months am now doing decline bench presses (flat and incline still cause pain). I can do weighted dips but have a limited RoM. Slowly things are improving but you have to be cautious and learn what you can do without pain. Lower the weights and test each movement - do not push too hard until you know how you will react. Also be prepared to hurt like crazy at night after a workout for a few months. Even though I did not push it, the workouts caused temporary inflamation and pain afterwards. That problem has also steadily decreased over time.

You can't say that anymore. Was doing one arm preacher curls very light weight. Tore my bicep and also partially torn rotator cuff. Had two different doctors look at it and MRI's. both DR.s suggested not doing surgery. yes I am still working out. yes it is impeading my progress.
